Marvel Exec Challenges Martin Scorsese After His Insulting Comments on MCU Movies
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been handling questions and doubts about its craftsmanship recently and even Martin Scorsese, one of the finest directors in the world did not stay away from criticizing the superhero movies.
Martin Scorses claimed that Marvel failed to convey the emotional and psychological aspects of their projects and saw those superhero movies as dangerous. The director does not feel that these movies are a cinema for human beings. Following Scorsese’s controversial comments, Marvel executive Kevin Wright defended Marvel and even challenged the filmmaker.
Marvel Executive Kevin Wright’s Response to Martin Scorsese’s Critiques
After the controversial comments by Martin Scorsese in an interview with Empire Magazine where the Gangs of New York maker compared the billion-dollar franchise with theme parks and claimed it lacks care and craftmanship, Marvel executive and Loki producer Kevin Wright has finally defended it by stating that the acclaimed superhero movies are made with love and care with an eye on the cinematic experience the audience will witness. Wright told Geeks of Color:
“[‘Loki’] is being built with a lot of love and care, and an eye for the cinematic. Any of these shows, any of these movies, anything in this world is about making a character-focused story that audiences can connect with. I would challenge anyone watching to say that [this show] is not cinematic, and it’s not built with the highest craftsmanship and care.”
Defending the work crafted in Loki and what Marvel presents to its enthusiasts and audience, Kevin Wright boldly challenged Scorsese who made comments on the genre. The executive explained that Marvel focuses on both its characters and the story which makes the projects compelling enough. He continued by stating that audiences enjoy what’s beautiful and exciting be it a show or an indie film.

Martin Scorsese’s Bitter Comments on Marvel
Kevin Wright isn’t the only defender against Scorsese’s comments as renowned and acclaimed director James Gunn and Spiderman actor Tom Holland couldn’t resist expressing their disappointment and outrage at the Silence maker’s controversial statements. In an interview with Empire magazine (via Variety), Martin Scorsese mentioned his thoughts on the Marvel movies and even compared them with theme parks. He said:
“I don’t see them. I tried, you know? But that’s not cinema, honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being.”
The director did not see Marvel movies as cinematic, instead, he blatantly compared them with theme parks. The Aviator maker in an interview with GQ also claimed that these movies are dangerous to our culture and the coming generation will believe that this is what movies are all about which will create a wrong image of cinematic masterpieces. Scorsese suggested the makers fight back strongly with creativity.
