Michelle Pfeiffer Still Regrets Turning Down 1 Movie That Catapulted Brad Pitt Into Stardom: “I still can’t watch…”
Michelle Pfeiffer has been a prolific actress in Hollywood for around four decades. She has been the highest-paid actress in the industry and has worked in a range of commercial blockbuster films like Batman Returns (1992), which was written by Daniel Waters. The film was made with a budget between $ 50 million-$ 80 million and it ended up collecting $266.8 million at the box office.
Regardless, there is one Pfeiffer film that got negative reviews from many critics and was also called a “box-office bomb.” In 2003, Michelle voiced the Eris in Sinbad: Legend of The Seven Seas an animated film directed by Tim Johnson and Patrick Gilmore. It was written by John Logan, who also wrote an Oscar-winning Gladiator in 2000. Sinbad was made with a budget of $60 million and earned around $80.8 million at the box office. Brad Pitt, also part of this film, voiced the protagonist ‘Sinbad.’
This was the only film in which both the actors were cast together. However, there was also a movie that gave one of the two stardom while the other regretted rejecting it. That, was Ridley Scott’s Thelma & Louise (1991).
Michelle Pfeiffer Says that she “still can’t watch ‘Thelma & Louise.’”
While Michelle Pfeiffer’s career is adorned with big commercial and critical successes, there has been one film that she regrets turning down. In a 2017 interview with Variety, the actress said “I still can’t watch ‘Thelma & Louise.’” The actress also added to her confession that “it was a direct conflict, so it was one film or the other. It still kills me. You can’t always do everything. You’ve got to give something up.”
The reason behind the Wolf star rejecting Scott’s film was the scheduling conflict between his film along Jonathan Kalpan’s directorial Love Field, which was released in 1992. The film revolved around John F. Kennedy’s assassination and her portrayal of “Lurene Hallett” led her to an Academy nomination.
Scott’s Thelma & Louise is a film written by Callie Khouri starring Susan Sarandon as Louise and Geena Davis as Thelma. The film received an Academy Award for its screenplay along with 4 nominations and seven BAFTA nominations.
