Today, Stone is considered among the successful actresses in the industry and has been an example for other stars. However, her initial journey wasn’t smooth sailing. Emma Stone recently received her award for Best Actress for her performance in Poor Things, and while accepting the honor at the 2024 Palm Springs International Film Festival, the Spider-Man star recalled the time when she was a 15-year-old girl and shared (via THR):

“When I first moved to L.A., I went to one of those general meetings that they sometimes send you to, and an executive told me that for male actors, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.”

Opening up about the sexist perspective of the producer in her acceptance speech, Stone added:

“And I realize that advice is total garbage because the majority of the women that I look up to in this industry, many of whom are in this room, have proven that as time goes on, life and work only get more interesting and more fulfilling.”

Emma Stone emphasized that these thoughts have existed in the industry for decades, and despite the producer’s words, the Easy A star has witnessed women having long and fulfilling careers in acting and revealed that some of them are the ones she looks up to. Stone also mentioned, “I hope for many more years of the chance to take swings and to try new things and to keep this marathon going,” expressing her gratitude as an acclaimed actress.

Calling out sexism isn’t new for Emma Stone. She has been working in the industry for a long time. From slaying rom-com films to fan-favorite movies, the actress has captivated fans worldwide. However, the Freinds With Benefits star once disclosed the double standard in the entertainment world by revealing an incident when her line was given to her male co-star. During an interview with Rolling Stone, the actress said:

“There are times in the past, making a movie, when I’ve been told that I’m hindering the process by bringing up an opinion or an idea.”

Disclosing how her well-received joke was passed down to her male co-star without considering Emma Stone’s perspective, the talented star added:

“I hesitate to make it about being a woman, but there have been times when I’ve improvised, they’ve laughed at my joke and then given it to my male co-star. Given my joke away.”

Stone shared that the dialogues she was given weren’t impactful and catchy, and as a result, they landed flat. The Battle of the Sexes star has also been a vocal critic of the gender pay gap. And expressed that female artists also deserve to be paid equally as the male co-stars.
