Peacock announced the entire cast list for its upcoming Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot. It will include 19-2’s Ardian Holmes and Atlanta’s Cassandra Freeman.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot has finally revealed its full cast list. Developed by Susan Borowitz and Andy, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air originally had its sitcom ran on NBC for six continuous seasons between 1990 and 1996. The show primarily featured Will Smith as a fictional character of himself, a teenager from West Philadelphia who lived with his uncle and aunt in L.A. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air also served as a star vehicle for Smith, which helped him getting transformed into a household name. The show was indeed a massive hit for NBC. While it has ended somewhat 25 years ago, it still remains relatively popular in syndication.
With that said, the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot was in gossip and conversation since 2015 but plans to revive the legendary show only revived after 2019 when a mock trailer from Morgan Cooper caught Smith’s attention. The trailer reflected a dramatic and darker version of the sitcom, which Will Smith greatly liked, and soon by Aug 2020, the two jumped to plan a reboot for Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Later in September of the same year, Peacock officially handed out a season order for the series that further confirmed the reboot’s progress. Even last month, Jabari Banks was discovered to get cast in the title role replacing Smith. And now, finally, NBCUniversal’s dedicated streamer, Peacock, has revealed the rest of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’s core cast.
Peacock tweeted on Tuesday that Fresh Prince of Bel-Air will have eight new actors. 19-2’s Ardian Holmes and Atlanta’s Cassandra Freeman are on board as Vivian Banks and Phillip, replacing Janet Hubert and late James Avery as Will’s uncle and aunt. Good Luck Charlie’s Coco Jones, Run Hide Fight’s Olly Sholotan, and Captain Marvel‘s Akira Akbar have been also cast for the series. They will be playing the roles of Hilary, Carlton, Ashley Banks, and Will’s cousins, replacing Karyn Parsons, Alfonso Ribeiro, and Tatyaya M. Ali. With that said, Jordan L. Jones is going to star as Jazz, Will’s best friend. And at last, Simone Joy Jones from The Chair is going to play Lisa, Smith’s love interest.
As of now, there is no information available on when the show would begin filming. Earlier, the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot was planning a 2021 launch. But Chris Collins’s exit from the project pushed the launch date to 2022. Well, now that the casting for the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot is completed, there is a hope that the production of the project will begin soon. With that said, the reboot is completely on track to its success and the fans will come to know more about it when the filming starts.
