The renowned actor Pedro Pascal has starred in some of the most well-known programs, such as Game of Thrones, Narcos, Mandalorian, and most recently The Last of Us. The actor is extremely appreciative of the support and acclaim his work has received from the public and critics, and his fame is growing every day.

Oberyn Martell, portrayed by Pedro Pascal in Game of Thrones, was brutally killed by The Mountain, who crushed Martell’s skull and spat blood all over the stone floor. Fans have long wished to pay tribute to Oberyn Martell, a fictional character whose death is regarded as one of the show’s most horrific deaths. However, perhaps they go too far, which has created some issues.

Pedro Pascal on how fans pay tribute to Oberyn Martell

Pedro Pascal joined a group of actors, including Jeff Bridges, Evan Peters, Kieran Culkin, Damson Idris, and Michael Imperioli, in a recent roundtable discussion for The Hollywood Reporter to discuss their professional experiences.

During the conversation, the group was asked what is something that a fan would like to say to them or ask them if they meet the streets. Pascal replied, “Because of Game of Thrones and the way my character died — speaking of touching — people were super into taking selfies with their thumbs in my eyes. And at first, I was so earnest and happy about the success of the character in the show, I’d let them! And then I remember getting a bit of an eye infection.”

Pedro Pascal calls the death of Oberyn Martell ‘cathartic’

Pascal had previously discussed the gory death sequence that had aired back in 2014 during an appearance on First We Feast’s Hot Ones and said that he had a great time.

Pascal shared with host Sean Evans, “There were all of these fleshy bits that they were kind of placing all over my face, and pumping blood so that it would pool, you know, and spread through the amphitheater for this good wide shot of the two of us from above. And I was dead asleep.”

The actor went on to say that although the entire process of filming was demanding, it was also extremely cathartic for him and that he experienced his deepest sleep ever.

Pedro Pascal reflects upon inhabiting dark spaces

During the roundtable conversation for The Hollywood Reporter, the group who have played dark or grey shade characters were asked if they can turn it off at the end of the day. Pascal said, “Something that I’ve actually found strange to discover later in life is the fact that it does weigh on you. Because I’ve always forced myself to not be romantic about the process.”

He further added that he likes to explore the bad guys’ area and added, “I’ve realized the older I get that it doesn’t matter what you do, stuff is going to come home with you. I just felt like I was really naive about it in the past, or that it was a choice, like I refused to indulge that these boundaries get blurred. And there isn’t really a way to keep that from happening, I’ve discovered.”

Pascal acknowledged toward the end of the interview that picking up The Last Of Us did scare him because there was the added element of an exposed silhouette—perhaps a cool silhouette—and a standard to be met in terms of how people would experience the story in its entirety. The actor continued by saying that while nobody is immune to disappointing people, he doesn’t want to let people down. He also mentioned that he wants people to like him.
