Whom did Ray Stevenson marry?

Ray Stevenson was married to English actress Ruth Gemmell in 1997, but little is known about his dating life because the actor typically kept his private affairs out of the public eye. The late actor and the actress who played Lady Violet Bridgerton first crossed paths on the sets of the 1995 television drama Band of Gold. The former couple later portrayed a married couple in the 1997 film Peak Practice. In Westminster, London, the former couple were married.

Unfortunately, their marriage did not last very long as, after eight years of being together, the couple headed for a divorce in 2005. The reason for their divorce was never known to the public. Back in 2015, the late actor shared with AV Club during an interview while remembering the making of Band of Gold, “I met my first wife doing that, Ruth Gemmell. I loved Lena Headey. I had a handlebar mustache if I remember correctly. I don’t know what on earth possessed me to go for that. I think I went to Bradford, and we saw these guys with their ‘staches. But it was fun working with Cathy Tyson, a wonderful actress.”

Ray Stevenson found love in Elisabetta Caraccia

Little is known about Italian anthropologist Elisabetta Caraccia, with whom Stevenson moved on following his divorce from Gemmell. They first connected while the actor was filming a scene in Rome, Italy, and remained together from 2006 until the end of the actor’s life, making their relationship almost two decades long.

Back in 2022, Caraccia shared with Ibiza Style her passion for traveling and historical preservation. She said,

We have to protect our nature – and that starts with avoiding as much as possible every purchase of products that come from multinational corporations and with stepping away from the wasteful and thoughtless throwaway culture. Most of what people throw away can still be used – or up-cycled. Because nothing is worthless.”

Tributes to Ray Stevenson pour in

In the list of tributes to the late actor, Academy Award-winning Bollywood movie RRR’s director SS Rajamouli shared, “Just can’t believe this news. Ray brought so much energy and vibrancy with him to the sets. It was infectious. Working with him was pure joy. My prayers are with his family. May his soul rest in peace.” Stevenson played Governor Scott Buxton in the movie.

Director James Gunn, who was involved in the production of the second Thor film, wrote that he only knew the late actor a little from shooting the post-credits of Thor 2 and a couple of interactions at the event and he had been a joy to work with. Actor Scott Adkins, who starred alongside Stevenson in Accident Man, said he was shocked and saddened by the tragic news, adding: “I will miss you, Big Ray!”

He will be seen in Ahsoka posthumously as the evil Baylan Skoll, and he was genuinely excited to be working in a galaxy far, far away.
