Considering how hard and long the cast, crew, and every creative on the team worked to make the movie worthwhile, it was bound to work wonders for Marvel Studios. During his virtual appearance at the event, Reynolds jokingly said that he had a huge hand in saving the studio from eventual doom, and he might not be too far from the truth.

Ryan Reynolds fought for years to get the first Deadpool movie made. In fact, he candidly admitted that he had contributed to the leaking of the footage that led Fox Studios to greenlight the movie. Upon its release, it quickly became a hit with fans and critics for its bold humor and dynamic action sequences.

The second movie enjoyed similar success. However, the future began to look a little murky for the third movie, and once again, Reynolds had to jump into action to keep the franchise from slipping into oblivion. Eventually, Disney acquired Fox and a third movie was greenlit with Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine joining the Marvel project.

The long wait for Deadpool & Wolverine has definitely turned out to be worth it for the audience and everyone else involved. Marvel Studios, which had been struggling rather hard to make a comeback following a series of critical and commercial failures, benefitted the most from the film.

Reynolds virtually appeared at D23 recently and took a subtle dig at the studio (via The Hollywood Reporter):

Just a few little teensy jokes at Marvel’s expense. It’s just it’s my way of showing love and you know, of course, saving the studio.

Then, he proceeded to welcome the Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

D23, without further ado, I’m just, I’m going to, I’m just thrilled. I’m going to introduce the original Marvel Jesus himself, Mr. Kevin Feige. Come on up, Kevin.

Deadpool would not be who he is without his fourth wall-breaking humor so it is not like Marvel had too much of an option except giving it a free pass for a couple of jokes.

Ryan Reynolds Thanked Everyone for Making Deadpool & Wolverine Such a Huge Success

Recently, Variety reported that Deadpool & Wolverine is well past the billion dollar mark with a global collection of $1.029 billion. It will probably not take long for the film to break Joker’s record-breaking collection of $1.07 billion and become the highest grosising R-rated film of the year.

Reynolds has been incredibly supportive and appreciative of each and every actor that made a cameo in the film or a team member who contributed to the film. The D23 expo was no different as he thanked the fans, saying:

I wanted to take a moment on behalf of Sean and Hugh and myself and really the whole, the whole Deadpool and Wolverine team to say thank you so much for going to see our film. I mean it when I say that it is still, it’s hard to process everything that’s happened these past few weeks.

He thanked fans for giving him such a warm and overwhelming welcome into the MCU. He also expressed his gratitude to Feige for letting them make the movie, despite the jokes.
