With rumors of Ryan Gosling’s potential role in a Star Wars movie gaining traction, fans are hopeful for a cameo by Ryan Reynolds. Given the numerous Star Wars references the Deadpool star has made in his collaborations with Shawn Levy, it would feel only fitting for Reynolds to have a part in the film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shawn Levy has been developing a Star Wars film since 2022, and Gosling is in talks to walk into that universe. Jonathan Tropper, who has worked with Levy on the scripts for This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project, has been busy penning a script for over a year.

This is a great opportunity for Ryan Reynolds to live his dreams of entering the galaxy far, far away. In his collaborations with Levy on the films The Adam Project (2022) and Free Guy (2021), there are references to the iconic lightsabers from Star Wars which are too obvious to miss.

In Free Guy, there is a scene in which Guy activates a lightsaber, complete with the iconic hum and glow, to combat the muscular and unfinished version of himself, Dude, who also happens to be his final boss (you can watch it here). The scene is enhanced by the iconic Star Wars score. They did something similar in The Adam Project.

In the sci-fi action-comedy movie, when younger Adam (Walker Scobell) asks older Adam (Reynolds) if it is a lightsaber when he sees it in the closed form, older Adam tells him that it is not. Fast forward to a couple of scenes later, older Adam begins wielding the glowing blue stick in true Jedi fashion, which leads younger Adam to say, “That’s a lightsaber, dude.” (You can watch it here.)

Over the years, Gosling and Reynolds have interacted numerous times. In 2016 (via ET), they posed together at the Critics’ Choice Awards, sending the internet into a complete meltdown. They even hugged each other. The bromance between them, affectionately labeled ‘Ryan-aissance’, reached a completely new level last year.

Reynolds was seen sporting a t-shirt emblazoned with Gosling’s face in the recent Deadpool & Wolverine teaser posted on Instagram. While the exact details of this t-shirt are not known, it is safe to say that it was probably a collaborative effort. When ET‘s Denny Directo spoke to the Barbie star at the premiere of The Fall Guy about it, the actor said he had only one request.

I mean, I just want my shirt back. He borrowed that shirt from me and I need it back.

Leave it to them to make the most humorous jokes out of nowhere. It would only be fair to solidify their bromance with a movie. The rumors about the new Star Wars movie might be exactly the kind of project they should collaborate on although there is no telling whether or not it will happen.

While there are no specific details available about whether the Star Wars movie is going to involve the Jedis and the Siths, the outlet has claimed that the movie will not have anything to do with the Skywalker Saga. It is supposed to be a standalone movie, as per a source. If Gosling signs on the dotted line, the filming might start this fall.
