Pamela, a Love Story, a documentary on Netflix directed by Ryan White, examines the rise and resurgence of Pamela Anderson, one of the most famous women of the 1990s. In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, director Ryan White explained how he connected with Anderson and differentiated the film from her memoir. Also, he explained why he limited talking heads, as documentaries require consent from their subjects. In addition, White revealed that he was “shocked” by the revelation of her financial troubles while he was working on Anderson’s documentary.
During his interview, he said,
“She was the most famous woman in the world on the most famous show in the world, and she doesn’t have a nest egg from Baywatch to rely upon.”
White added,
“It’s shocking for how famous she is and how much a part of American pop culture she’s been for the last 30-something years that she had been in financial trouble that many times. It was really revealing and really humanizing.”
Later White said for her family,
“Such an unconventional family in a lot of ways… You can’t categorize this family. They are insane in the best of ways, so open and honest with one another, and have nothing to hide. It’s like this open-door policy to talk about anything.”
In one scene of the documentary, Anderson’s son Brandon Thomas Lee, who produced the documentary, revealed that his mother is not as financially secure as fans might think. With her portrayal of Casey Jean Parker on Baywatch, where she appeared on multiple Playboy covers, anybody can assume that she captivated the masses for five years, but unfortunately, that is not the case.
