Since Meghan Markle’s royal marriage to Prince Harry in 2018, the former American actress has been under intense scrutiny. Much like Princess Diana’s experience after her very public divorce from King Charles, Markle has been criticized by the press, the general people, and even the royal family.

Actor Brian Cox, well known for his performances in Succession and X-Men, recently spoke with Haute Living New York. Cox claimed that Meghan Markle knew exactly what she was getting into when she married Prince Harry. Cox claims that Markle always pictured herself marrying “Prince Charming.”

Many who know Meghan Markle well claim that British royalty has always fascinated her. She supposedly attended Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ wedding with her mother when she was little and subsequently kept a framed portrait of Princess Diana in her chamber.

Consequently, Meghan Markle expressed her desire to be a princess in an interview with Vanity Fair.

“Every little girl wants to be a princess, and I, for one, was all about She-Ra, Princess of Power. Growing up, I had a poster of [Princess] Diana on my wall, I went to London when I was 15 and I was struck by how different it was. I remember thinking, ‘I love it here.'”

Meghan Markle’s ascent to the royal family did not come without its challenges. She was a well-known actress before she wed Prince Harry, and she is still well-known now for her part in the courtroom drama Suits. The blind date she went on with Prince Harry in 2016 altered her life forever. Fast romance blossomed between them, and Markle was thrown into the spotlight as she began participating in royal activities and philanthropic endeavors.

Meghan Markle, being a biracial woman, was the target of racism and sexism from some members of the media. She was accused of destroying the royal family and for spending too much on her outfit and disregarding royal decorum. Yet, Meghan Markle never wavered in her resolve to put her celebrity to good use. Markle and Prince Harry have since established several laudable philanthropic endeavors, including the Invictus Games and the Sussex Royal Foundation.

Living in a Royal Family and Its Difficulties

In a recent interview, Scottish actor Brian Cox believes Meghan Markle understood “exactly what she was getting into” by marrying Prince Harry. According to him, Markle had “childhood dreams of marrying Prince Charming.”

“You can’t go into a system where somebody’s already been trained to behave in a certain kind of way and then just expect them to cut themselves off. I mean, she knew what she was getting into, and there’s an ambition there clearly as well — the childhood dreams of marrying Prince Charming and all that sh*t we see as fantasy that could be our lives in our dreams. I’m a Cinderella person, you know.”

In interviews, Markle and Prince Harry discussed their experiences with prejudice, the lack of support from the royal family, and their aspiration to build a quiet, secluded life for their children.

Their interview with Oprah with Meghan and Harry caused even more scrutiny against the couple’s decision to “bear it all.” Following this, the couple was seen talking about their troubles with being royals on their latest Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan.
