Spider-Man: 5 Rare Times The Friendly Neighborhood Superhero “Unleashed The Beast”
The Web-Slinging superhero, Spider-Man, is perhaps a force for the good. However, there have been quite some times when he has stepped out and acted brutally to unleash the beast. Spider-Man is insanely strong, yet he tries to catch and hold the criminals instead of causing them injury. This is maybe because of the lesson that Uncle Ben once taught him while quoting “With great power, there must also come great responsibility.”
With that being said, there have been quite some times when Peter Parker and the other alternative versions of Spider-Man have been pushed beyond their physical and mental limits. As a result, they did things that not an everyday Spider-Man would do. These are the 5 such times when the friendly neighborhood hero literally “unleashed the beast” –
The Amazing Spider-Man #122
The Amazing Spider-Man #122 highlighted one of the biggest battles between the Green Goblin and Spider-Man. After killing Gwen Stace, Goblin thrives to escape, which leaves Peter full of anguish. As a result, he starts attacking the cops who try to approach Gwen’s dead body. Later, when he finally confronts Goblin, Peter holds nothing back and starts beating him to death. Spider-Man finally stops right before killing Goblin with his bare hands. However, Norman throws a trick at him. The Goblin glider rises up and moves forward to kill Peter. Apparently, Peter senses it and dodges it out of its way, and later puts an end to Goblin’s life.
Superior Spider-Man #6
After tracking the Spider-Man for quite some time, Doctor Octopus, also known as Otto Octavius, finally discovers a way to kill Peter Parker. In Superior Spider-Man #6, Doctor Octopus croaks Peter Parker and becomes the new Web-Slinger. However, people soon start questioning Otto’s idea of wrong and right. When Screwball hits Mayor J. Jonah Jameson and their video goes viral, he calls Spidey to help. As they show up, Doctor Octopus starts attacking them. As a result, Screwball and Jester start hitting Spider-Man with their weapons but Otto enlarges himself and puts a stop to the attacks.
The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 2 #35
Morlun debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 2 #35. This character was an interdimensional vampire who feeds beings’ energies on the Spider-Totem. However, it is a long story. When he starts feeling thirsty on Earth 616, he thrives to hunt Spider-Man. But he is perhaps different from all the threats that Peter has faced so far. While Morlun has got some insane speed, he is incredibly powerful as well. As a result, to face this monster, Peter injects a radioactive agent inside his body. Finally, when Morlun attempts to hunt and drain Spider-Man, he gets weakened by the radiation and Peter brutally beats him down.
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #3
In Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #3, Peter Parker finds himself in somewhat a different position to face Morlun. He has started getting weaker after being diagnosed with a mysterious illness. And apparently, Morlun returns from death to take Spider-Man finally down. As a result, he thrives on Spider-Man to give him the biggest beatings ever. While Morlun managed to rip Spider-Man’s left eye, police interrupted him. When he returns to finish what he started, it was Mary Jane who attempts to stop him. However, she gets her arm broken as a result of interrupting. This finally prompts Peter Parker and he jumps off his hospital bed to save MJ. Peter then pins Morlun’s arm on the floor and savages his throat with his sharp fangs.
The Amazing Spider-Man #700
The battle between Spider-Man and heavily armored villain, Scorpio, failed to last long. However, it was a great moment to capture. In The Amazing Spider-Man #700, when Spider-Ock thrives to project Jonah Jameson’s family, Mac Gargan sees him. Apparently, Otto dodges his deadly tail before it could crack him down. Later, he punches Mac’s jaw and gets surprised by seeing his own strength. He realized how Peter was pulling his punches all this time. This was perhaps one of those moments that echoed about Peter’s character and his responsibilities. As a result, Jameson quickly joins Team Spidey. This showed that J Jonah Jameson likes a person if he’s doing something terribly wrong.
