The brightest torch in the Marvel flame is upheld by Earth’s greatest heroes: the Avengers. Since their inception, the group has always been in publications and has fascinated fans for decades now. But this team of superheroes has gone through a lot of changes over time, even seeing its lineup changed during the events that have transpired in MCU. It is for those reasons that this pivotal comic book team will remain an inspiration to us all.

However, it’d be a big fat lie to echo that the Avengers are untouchables and no one can defeat them. The A-Squad and their supervillain opponents from Marvel Universe have gone head to head on countless occasions by now. With that being said, these are the 5 static shock villains that would make the Avengers sweat meatballs –

Taskmaster

Taskmaster is indeed one of the most powerful supervillains in Marvel. He’s a genius combatant who can perfectly mimic any combat pattern he witnesses or reads about to get an edge over his opponent whenever there is trouble (which happens quite frequently). The likes of Captain America and Wolverine are known across the universe as some of the strongest heroes within Earth-616, and they will have their work cut out for them if they want to stay focused on the villainous tasks at hand with someone like Taskmaster drawing upon their powers to defeat them.

Ex Nihilo

He is among one of the Gardeners, a group of NPCs in Marvel Comics. They created life to sustain it and shape the universe. In his role as one of the Gardeners, Ex Nihilo sought to create evolution on Earth. He wanted this because The Builders were given orders by Life Maker to join The Garden, which was in fact a planet made just for that exact purpose. Iron Man was sent to investigate irregularities such as these and thus began their feud. Ex Nihilo may seem strong and intimidating, but his goal is merely to aid those who need him despite having been misinformed as well as deceived by Vance Astrovik (The Eradicator).

Korvac

Michael Korvac is one of the most devastating foes that the Avengers, or any other team for that matter, have ever faced. Despite being from a different dimension, this cyborg can quickly adapt to challenges and anyone foolhardy enough to attack will effectively be sacrificing their life without much hope of success. The best way for our heroes to survive against a foe like this then is by trying something completely different – such as fighting alongside him.

Red Onslaught

Red Skull became a demigod during the Axis storyline. He starts out as a villain only to then become a hero during the arc. Professor X was previously an enemy of Apocalypse, who turns out to be alive and well. Thanks to some misdirection and the use of a clever holographic projection, Apocalypse manages to fool the other X-Men into thinking that they’re up against Apocalypse one last time before emerging as the new Onslaught. With his newfound powers ranging from telekinesis to telepathy and pyrokinesis, not only can he control threats to humans but mutants as well. With this newly acquired power and telepathic strength, Red Onslaught could command threats to The Avengers and their kind.

God Emperor Doom

After the multiversal collapse in Secret Wars led by Jonathan Hickman, Doctor Doom reclaims his throne as God Emperor of Battleworld. However, as a benevolent ruler, Doom’s mind still remains intact but is also tainted with evil. As time progresses, Doom is tormented with recollections of his past deeds which haunt him every night before going to sleep. That being said, God Emperor Doom, at this stage, could make the Avengers sweat like hell.
