Katy Perry is a renowned personality all over the world who has been recognized for her influence on modern pop music and her campy style. She is one of the personalities who has always been vocal about s*xuality and who can forget her pop hit song, I Kissed a Girl, which garnered major public attention with the singer later opening up about her writing process.
The 38-year-old celebrity has opened up about her beliefs and once shared how her religious upbringing never came between her thoughts. However, she also added that she always respected her parent’s beliefs as well.
Katy Perry Exploring S*xuality After Breaking Away from The Church!
Katy Perry has always been vocal on many things especially when it came to our intimate experiences. She has even written a song about it however her journey to a realization of it came years ago.
She had faced great adversity before stepping the ladders to success. Her parents being Christian pastors was what could be her barrier to exploring her s*xuality. However, she began to back away from the church around her teenage years when she decided s*x would not have to wait until marriage.
“I was like, I don’t know if I can hold that promise because this guy at camp is really cute,” she shared while giggling.
She further clarified that the topic was not discussed in her house however her curiosity led her to know it. “S*x wasn’t talked about in my home, but I was a very curious young girl.”
The singer recalling her past with the present shared having no regrets about either of them. She began by stating, “I’m not defined by where I came from.”
Stating that she never participated in the activities that were associated with religion, “I never took part in the rules and hatred that sometimes go along with religion.”
“But if my parents are happy with what they believe, then I’m happy to stay out of their way. We agree to disagree,” she shared clarifying that she did not oppose her parent’s beliefs adding that they had agreed to have different beliefs.
Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl” Controversy
The song, I Kissed a Girl is the debut single from Perry’s second studio album, One of the Boys, which quickly entered into the top charts and became a popular hit back in 2008. Back in an interview with CNN, she revealed that her song was a real-life scenario as she “did kiss a girl, and it was nice.”
While the song was commercially a success, it received criticism from the members of the LGBTQ community however it has been considered the beginning of LGBT awareness in pop music. Due to its lyrics, it was considered offensive to the queer culture.
Back in 2018, she admitted that the lyrics did contain “a couple of stereotypes” adding that she would recreate that song. At that time, she shared, “Lyrically, it has a couple of stereotypes in it. Your mind changes so much in 10 years, and you grow so much. What’s true for you can evolve.”
She has further revealed that she has kissed several girls. She was recently in the limelight for the weird eye glitch clip that was taken during her Las Vegas show. The singer already addressed the multiple reports stating it was just a stunt.
