Ackles made his debut as the Payback leader Soldier Boy in Season 3 to much acclaim. His tragic backstory and complex dynamic with Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher made him a standout addition. Will Soldier Boy Play a Key Role Again After That Season 3 Twist in The Boys Season 4?
In a photo obtained by The Direct, Jensen Ackles can be seen wearing a black baseball cap bearing The Boys’ Season 4 logo. This potential leak comes ahead of any official announcement about Soldier Boy’s return from Amazon or the show’s creators.
While not outright confirmation, the hat choice strongly implies Ackles is reprising the fan-favorite role after Soldier Boy was left depowered but alive in the Season 3 finale.
Showrunner Eric Kripke craftily sidestepped questions about Soldier Boy’s future in a recent interview. But he hinted that the Season 3 cliffhanger could lead to more stories for the character.
“I hope this doesn’t spoil anything. I don’t actually want to confirm or deny anything about Soldier Boy himself,” Kripke told TVLine. “But I will say that… clearly, Butcher has taken his powers away but not killed him. So he’s still alive and out there.”
What Other Heroes and Villains May Return for Season 4?
Along with Soldier Boy, Season 4 is expected to see the return of Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, and core cast members Laz Alonso, Karen Fukuhara, Tomer Kapon, and Erin Moriarty.
