The Kardashians: Lamar Odom’s Surprising Reason for Calling Khloé Kardashian His ‘Wife’ 9 Years After Divorce

Reality TV star Khloé Kardashian is returning to the screens with her sisters for the sixth season of their reality TV show The Kardashians. The founder of Good American was married to former professional Los Angeles Lakers player Lamar Odom from 2009 to 2016, and their wedding was featured on E!’s Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

The former player was discovered unconscious at the Love Ranch, a legal brothel in Nevada. Khloé, who had filed for a divorce in 2015, withdrew her request for a divorce to take care of Odom, who had suffered kidney failure, and several heart attacks, and was on life support. The two recently reunited during the premiere episode of The Kardashians, and Lamar Odom referred to the reality TV star as his ‘wife.’

Khloé Kardashian, along with Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian Barker, Kendall, and Kylie Jenner, is returning for the sixth season of The Kardashians with Kris Jenner. One familiar face that the audience hasn’t seen in a while is former basketball player Lamar Odom. He was married to Khloé Kardashian from 2009 to 2016.

On the premiere episode of The Kardashians, Lamar Odom arrived at Kardashian’s best friend Malika Haqq’s house with a bouquet of roses and champagne. The two reportedly haven’t met since their divorce in 2016, and Odom is heard saying to the reality star,

I haven’t seen you in so long; you make me nervous.

The reason Kardashian decided to meet Odom was to return some of his belongings, including his Sixth Man of the Year award and a custom-made diamond necklace she had given him. The reality star found his things during a recent move and wanted him to have those back.

The People reported that Khloé Kardashian gave her ex-husband two boxes of stuff to take, and Odom found out that one of those had a set of rings, which he said was a wedding ring.

The reality star shared in a confessional interview that she had met Odom in 2016, and according to him, he was still doing things he shouldn’t have been doing. She said,

I had to break contact with him because Lamar was repeating some of the same behaviors that I just couldn’t stand for. I was shocked that he was repeating those behaviors himself, coming out of the whole vegan accident.

While Lamar Odom appeared visibly nervous, Khloé Kardashian tried to calm him down by telling him that she was not going to do or say anything scary. Odom understood and thanked the Good American founder for trying her hardest to be there for him.

One thing that the audience and Khloé Kardashian noticed during the episode was Lamar Odom, who was very nervous to meet her, and he flirtatiously quipped,

My wife is the s**t.

Khloé Kardashian didn’t seem to take that comment seriously and asked Odom to ‘calm down.’

In her confessional, she said that she did not have a lot of emotions when she thought of meeting her ex-husband. Khloé went through a lot during her relationship with Odom, and recalling the same, she said,

I have dealt with so many traumas in this relationship. For years, this was such the love of my life that to learn how to unlove someone, to have to go through all that, it’s almost like a death. So him calling me his ’wife’—words are empty.

Khloé Kardashian added that she does not know the person sitting in front of her anymore. Lamar Odom, back in 2015, had shared with InTouch the reason why he still calls Khloé his wife. He said that a misunderstanding between him and his wife became public, and it was hurtful. He added,

That woman is my wife. Without the ring on my finger. Even with her picture being taken with another man, that woman is my wife. She’s my soulmate. I cannot control it. We’ll never part. I would never consider myself serious with another woman.

Odom had also confessed about their relationship in his memoir Darkness to Light, in which he wrote,

At the start of our marriage, I was faithful to her. I could not handle the lethal cocktail of the spotlight, addiction, a diminishing career, and infidelity. Oh, did I mention the paranoia, anxiety, depression…I couldn’t keep my d**k in my pants or the coke out of my nose.

In his memoir, Odom revealed that he has had s*x with more than 2000 women, noting that his s*x and cocaine addiction go hand in hand.

Khloé Kardashian, in speaking to Jay Shetty on her podcast Khloé in Wonderland, mentioned that it was a lot harder for her with her first husband because she was young. She also added that she has never considered herself a victim in any of her relationships that did not work.
