The man in the director’s chair for Gladiator 2 will be prolific filmmaker Ridley Scott, and the screenplay is scripted by David Scarpa. The star cast of Gladiator 2 includes Paul Mescal in the lead role as Lucius, Fred Hechinger for the role of Emperor Geta, and two-time Academy Award winner, Denzel Washington, whose character is yet to be revealed. The other stars are Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Joseph Quinn, and Djimon Hounsou. May Calamawy will play the female lead in the epic sequel.
The sequel to Gladiator, released in 2000, will return to the big screen after over two decades. Still in production, the highly anticipated sequel started filming in the summer of 2023, and fans are eagerly awaiting glimpses from the sets as there has yet to be a plot revelation for Gladiator 2.
The sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2000 epic film, Gladiator landed Russell Crowe the Oscar for Best Actor for his role as Maximus Decimus Meridius, a general who was sold into slavery and, going forward, becomes a Gladiator. The tagline of the film read:
“The general who became a slave… The slave who became a gladiator… The gladiator who defied an empire…”
Gladiator 2 Stunt Accident Leaves 6 Crew Members Injured
According to a Paramount spokesperson, on Friday, a stunt went wrong on Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 set, and six crew members were injured in the accident. The studio said the accident was non-life-threatening, and no further details were available.
The spokesperson said,
“The safety and full medical services teams on-site were able to act quickly so that those impacted immediately received necessary care. They are all in stable condition and continue to receive treatment. The well-being of the cast and crew is of the utmost importance to us, and we have strict health and safety procedures in place on all our productions.” The statement further read, “We will continue monitoring the situation and taking all necessary precautions as we resume production.”
The accident occurred while filming in Morocco, where six people were given the required treatment, and among them, two were given medical aid and discharged, whereas four people are still hospitalized due to the stunt sequence of the action film gone wrong. According to the sources from the production team, all the impacted crew members were treated for burn injuries that occurred during the end of the shooting day, but none of the crew members were seriously harmed.
Paramount Pictures has fixed the upcoming sequel’s release date as November 22, 2024.
