“They don’t know their lines”: Alan Rickman Hated Emma Watson’s Accent in $9.6 Billion Franchise, Thought She Needed Extra Help
Alan Rickman was one of the most famous Hollywood actors. The late English actor owed most of his popularity to the Harry Potter franchise. From the period drama Sense and Sensibility to the romantic comedy Love Actually, Rickman played numerous great roles over the years.
The A Little Chaos actor portrayed the recurring complex character Severus Snape in the eight Harry Potter movies from 2001 to 2011. Alan Rickman was known to be a man who spoke less, so it didn’t come as much of a surprise that he jotted down his thoughts in a journal that was discovered after his unfortunate passing away.

Alan Rickman had Opinions on Emma Watson’s Accent
The diary that Alan Rickman used to maintain had some details about his experience in working with the other actors he had worked with. Unsurprisingly, many of these diary entries were about his time working in Harry Potter, and the entry dated July 30, 2003, gave a vivid description of his day on the set. This description also included criticism about his young co-stars including his take on Emma Watson‘s accent. He had written:
Alfonso [Cuarón, director] was quietly ballistic with me. I love him too much to let it last too long so I wailed offset and we sorted it out. He’s under the usual HP pressure and even he starts rehearsing cameras before actors, and these kids need directing. They don’t know their lines and Emma [Watson]’s diction is this side of Albania at times.
Apart from his impeccable acting skills, Alan Rickman was widely known for his characteristic deep, languid voice. He voiced Absolem the Caterpillar in 2010’s Alice in Wonderland directed by Tim Burton. Considering he had worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company; it can be understood how good of an actor was Rickman.

Alan Rickman was not Just a Great Actor
Unfortunately, Alan Rickman lost his long-running battle with pancreatic cancer in 2016, and passed away leaving behind an unmatchable legacy having played characters that will be engraved in people’s minds forever. He was a kind person that once made sure that a sick kid was cast as one of the extras in the third Harry Potter movie.
There are uncountable stories of Rickman’s kindness and thoughtfulness that were recounted by the cast and crew of Harry Potter after the actor passed away. In fact, some of the youngest actors that worked with him regarded him as their inspiration as he would always be on the lookout for them.
Although Rickman had established a reputation for playing dark and sinister characters, he was admittedly one of the kindest people. From carrying around Rupert Grint’s awfully exaggerated sketch of him to taking Daniel Radcliffe and Matthew Lewis to get milkshakes, the Die Hard actor left no chance to be considerate towards the young kids.
