Before Meghan Markle quit acting to marry Prince Harry, she saw a lot of success as Rachel Zane on the highly popular legal drama Suits. Her run on the show was cut short for multiple reasons with her romantic relationship with a British prince being the primary one. Markle said goodbye to the show two seasons before it concluded.

Although away from acting, Markle keeps making news as a royal with a totally different kind of drama, Suits even though it last premiered almost four years ago is now getting popular again. And the Duchess of Sussex’s former co-star credited her for the show’s rediscovered success.

Patrick J. Adams who played Mike Ross, one of the main characters in the legal drama recently did something that had fans shocked, amazed, and laughing.

Mike Ross is a practicing lawyer in the city’s best law firm. But the catch is, despite being aces at his job, he never went to law school. Rachel Zane played by Meghan Markle is a paralegal working at the firm and her story is explored with her relation to Mike.

Working together for almost a decade, Adams and Markle became close friends. He attended the royal wedding with his wife Troian Bellisario. The pair have been close and just recently Adams changed his Instagram bio, making a joke about how Suits has gotten popular due to Megan Markle and Prince Harry making news all the time.

His Instagram bio now reads:

“The guy from that show you’re watching on that app because that girl married that prince.”

Fans quickly picked up on this subtle but surely friendly jab at the drama that surrounds the stepped-down royals.

In March 2021, Markle was accused of ill-treatment of the royal staffers after the couple announced they were permanently stepping back from their role as senior royals. There was a lot of negative reaction and backlash to this announcement. Adams, who had remained on friendly terms with Markle even after her departure from the show was quick to defend his former co-star. The actor posted a lengthy statement on his social media in support of Markle. The following is an excerpt from it:

“Meghan Markle and I spent the better part of a decade working together on Suits. From day one, she was an enthusiastic, kind, cooperative, giving, joyful, and supportive member of our television family. She remained that person and colleague as fame, prestige, and power accrued. It sickened me to read the endless racist, slanderous, click-baiting vitriol spewed in her direction from all manner of media across the UK and the world. But I also knew that Meghan was stronger than people realized or understood and they would regret underestimating her.”

Teasing, joking, and backing up in a time of need is friendship. Patrick J. Adams seems like a true friend.

Suits is now streaming on Netflix.
