Guess what? It’s time for the 95th Academy Awards ceremony on 12th March 2023, and the Oscar nominations are to be announced on 24th January. It’s that time of the year when the drama unleashes and people call it PR stunts, viewers call the Oscars predictive, and audiences get to know the names of the highly appreciated movies. Every year, the Variety Awards Circuit section releases a curated list of movies that are predicted for the Oscars, Emmys, and other awards. The prediction list is updated every Thursday until the tentative date of the award shows. This year six films have been predicted for Oscar nominations and Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick is among them.
In an interview with Variety, Jennifer Connelly, co-star to Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick was asked about her opinion on Cruise winning the Oscars. The actress spoke in favor of Cruise, so much so that Brandon Fraser, who pulled himself up to the top 10 Oscars list with his movie The Whale might face tough competition despite all the love and support.

Jennifer Connelly starred beside Tom Cruise in the highly anticipated movie Top Gun: Maverick from the Top Gun series. The first Top Gun movie was released in 1986, with a 36 years gap the second movie was released with the name Top Gun: Maverick in 2022. Both starring Tom Cruise as the main character, made a hit with the first part being 6.9 rated on IMDb and the recent part receiving an 8.3 rating on IMDb. Although the first movie didn’t receive an academy award, fans have crossed their fingers for the recent one.
Variety reached out to Jennifer Connelly for an interview regarding her opinions on the movie and Tom Cruise winning the Oscars this time. Although Tom Cruise has been nominated several times for the best actor, he has never won an Oscar, however, this time Connelly thinks it’s time for the potential dark horse to finally win an academy award.
Jennifer Connelly thinks Tom Cruise deserves the Oscar for best actor, due to his accomplishments behind the scenes. She calls him an “extraordinary” actor, who is best at his job.

Jennifer Connelly believes Brandon Fraser doesn’t stand a chance against Tom Cruise
In an interview with Variety regarding the Oscar nominations, Jennifer Connelly stated her opinions about Tom Cruise and why he deserves the award this time. “He does an amazing job in the movie. He’s extraordinary as a person and fantastic as an actor, and I think that he is just perfect.” Connelly shares.
On being asked whether Tom Cruise’s name should be in Oscar nominations, Connelly replied “He embodies that character so beautifully, and I think he absolutely deserves it.” Jennifer Connelly supported her co-star by stating “Also, thinking about Tom’s work, think of the things that he did for that role”. She continued “the work that he did to accomplish those flying sequences, it’s something else.”
Connelly believes her co-star deserves the Oscar this time, despite being in tough competition with Brandon Fraser and Austin Butler. Brandon Fraser made it to the top 10 list of potential Oscar nominations by Variety with his movie The Whale and Austin Butler made a breakthrough in his career with his movie Elvis.
Jennifer Connelly has high hopes for Tom Cruise and believes wholeheartedly that he deserves the Oscar this time.
