“This is it. This is our way forward”: Jonathan Majors’ Performance in Loki Was So Powerful Marvel Immediately Made Plans for Him to Replace Josh Brolin’s Thanos
Jonathan Majors is in a huge mess right now. His burgeoning career was rudely interrupted by a serious domestic assault allegation. He got arrested in New York City on March 25, 2023, and his reputation got dragged through the mud. However, once, not too long back, Majors was Marvel’s blue-eyed boy. His extraordinary performance in Loki made him the Number one prospect in the MCU, and big things were in store for him by the Marvel studio executives. Alas, life had other plans. It remains to be seen how these allegations hold up in court.
Jonathan Majors’ Performance in Loki Bedazzled Marvel
Jonathan Majors has worked with several big banner houses, including Marvel Cinematic Universe. From starring in minor roles to appearing in commercially successful films, his journey has been inspiring to say the least. The actor is best known for portraying Kang the Conqueror in the MCU superhero films. Alas, a bombshell accusation almost brought about his downfall, and he was arrested in New York City after the anonymous woman accused him of assault and harassment charges. Sources claimed Marvel Studios is now revising its Phase Six plan because of Jonathan Majors’ legal troubles.
According to reports, Marvel studio officials were so impressed by the awesomeness of Jonathan Majors’s acting skills in Loki and The Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania that they planned to highlight his portrayal of Kang in Phase Six. However, sources now claim that his legal troubles have put him in the spotlight, and the executives might have to reconsider their decision.
In a candid interview, Joanna Robinson, the author of upcoming book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios revealed that she heard from someone exclusively that it was not Marvel’s initial plan to make Kang the center of attention in the latter phases of the Multiverse Saga. During her appearance on The Big Picture podcast, Robinson said,
“I was told by someone who works for Marvel it was not the plan to make Kang the center of everything until they saw the dailies from Quantumania and after his performance in Loki, which was so strong they were like, This is it. This is our way forward. We’ve lost our varsity hero team, but let’s set up around this guy Kang and this performer that so many people are reacting to.”
Robinson added that Marvel studio has “never hung so much of a franchise on one actor” as they have on Jonathan Majors. She explained,
“I don’t think you or I am very interested in saying what Marvel should or shouldn’t do going forward, but we know this is a huge problem for them that; they are facing and grappling with right now. And what’s unprecedented in this for Marvel is, I would argue, they have never hung so much of a franchise on one actor, as they tried to hang it on Jonathan Majors after his Loki performance and his Ant-Man: Quantumania performance.”
She continued,
“I would argue more than Downey as Iron Man, more than Brolin as Thanos, that hanging everything on these guys is then going to pop up in all of their properties leading up to something called The Kang Dynasty’ has put them in a very unusual position. They don’t usually hang this much on one person in the way that they did here. And that has put them in a bind. We do not know what they are going to do. I’ve heard conflicting stories about they are going to replace him, they’re not even considering replacing him, etc. But it’s just one more thing.”
