Top Gun: Maverick Locks Aim On Elvis After Decimating Doctor Strange 2 At The Box-Office
The two movies that are currently fighting for the number one spot at the box office are Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick and Warner Bros.’s Elvis. As per Variety, both movies brought in $30.5 million over the past weekend and are currently tied at the domestic box office.
The final numbers will be revealed on Monday, 27th June
Baz Luhrman’s Elvis biopic starring Austin Butler was released in theaters on June 24 and managed to secure the number one spot at the box office on its opening night, then on Saturday, it descended to second place, before tying up with Top Gun: Maverick on Sunday.

Top Gun: Maverick has achieved joined the exclusive $1B club
Top Gun: Maverick was able to surpass the $1 billion milestone at the global box office. It is the highest-grossing movie of 2022 in the world, surpassing the $943 million earned by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Industry analysts already predicted this a while ago
Within its first four days of release, Top Gun: Maverick was able to earn $160.5 million making it Tom Cruise‘s highest-earning opening in North America. The Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was the highest-grossing movie in the United States, earning $398 million domestically. Then Top Gun: Maverick swooped in and stole the crown, earning more than $400 million domestically.

The movie was a sequel to the original 1986 Top Gun
The movie was set nearly 30 years after the events of the original 1986’s Top Gun. The movie follows the story of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (played by Tom Cruise) as he is enlisted to train a new generation of pilots. Val Kilmer also reprised his role and Tom Cruise explained that it was important for him to return for the sequel for an extremely emotional scene. He said, “I really rallied hard for him to make the movie. The kind of talent that he has, and you see that scene, it’s very special, it’s just very special.”
