Daniel Radcliffe’s comments on Johnny Depp’s casting resurface online
Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe’s comments about Depp’s casting as Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts sequel from 2018 have found their way back to the Internet. His ex-wife Amber Heard allegedly accused Depp of domestic violence at the time of his casting, which the movie’s writer J.K. Rowling, director David Yates, and studios Warner Bros. defended at the time.
Radcliffe, however, during an interview said, “It’s a very hard thing for me”, adding that he wants nothing but to be supportive of the makers of the film, especially because they had given him a great start in life and this amazing job. But he added,
“I suppose the thing I was struck by was, we did have a guy who was reprimanded for weed on the [original Potter] film, essentially, so obviously, what Johnny has been accused of is much greater than that.”
Rowling at the time said, “Based on our understanding of the circumstances, the filmmakers and I are not only comfortable sticking with our original casting, but genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies.”
Is Johnny Depp making a return to Pirates of the Caribbean franchise?
Since Johnny Depp won the defamation case against Heard in Virginia and was not found guilty of being physically or emotionally abusive towards his ex-wife, there have been speculations about Disney trying to get the actor onboard once again.
Even though during the trial when Depp took the stand and was asked if he’d ever return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, he refused and said he would not to that, there have been rumors about the authorities trying to convince him to change his mind and sources have said that the actor has not yet completely shut the doors on Disney. The sources said anything is possible with him and the actor would return to Disney if he finds the right project.
Depp made his grand red carpet appearance at the Cannes Film Festival while promoting his movie Jeanne Du Barry; it was known that there were more projects lined up for the actor. He was in talks to play a role in Beetlejuice 2 but it was later reported that Mads Mikkelsen had replaced the actor.
