  • 'Armor Wars' is expected to connect 'Ironheart' and 'VisionQuest' that could set the stage for further developments.

It has been over 15 years since the first Iron Man came out, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe has gone through the rise and death of Tony Stark. However, one character that has always been his underrated support since day one is James Rhodes.

Don Cheadle has been playing Rhodes since Terrence Howard left Marvel after Iron Man 1. The actor was last seen in Secret Invasion in 2023, and since the announcement of Armor Wars, fans have been waiting to see more of him. However, his recent comment about the movie is both hilarious and upsetting at the same time.

Armor Wars was first announced as a Disney+ show in 2020. Later, it was decided to be a movie in 2022. However, no further announcements or updates were made after that, and it has been worrying for fans as Bob Iger has decided to focus on quality over quantity (according to Deadline).

However, recently, Don Cheadle has been doing a press tour for Fight Night: The Million Dollar. In an interview with Today, he was asked about Armor Wars, and the actor replied in true Andrew Garfield fashion, saying, “What’s Armor Wars?”

Garfield has become the flag bearer of hiding appearances in upcoming projects since Spider-Man: No Way Home. After him, many other Marvel actors started lying with straight faces, like Dafne Keen for Deadpool & Wolverine and Harrison Ford for Captain America: Brave New World.

Now, Cheadle has joined the list. He added his famous line as well, saying, “I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you.” But although it might sound funny, the actual status of Armor Wars might be in a “limbo” state, according to insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus).

Nothing yet; it’s just in a very weird limbo, like Blade. But the recent updates with VisionQuest gave me hope because they’re both connected.

The Blade movie has been one of the most delayed projects of Marvel. Mahershala Ali was announced at 2019’s San Diego Comic-Con International, and since then, there have been way too many changes in scripts, writers, and directors. The film is still scheduled for 2025, but there has been no update on its production yet.

Amid all this, Perez’s comparison of Armor Wars with Blade definitely worries fans. However, the former might be slightly in a better state as of now, as he further mentioned that Armor Wars is most likely linked to Ironheart, which has been scheduled for 2025. But it will also be tied up with VisionQuest, which will most probably be released in 2026 before Avengers: Doomsday.

What Will Armor Wars Be About?

Although the story and plot details have not been revealed yet, it can be imagined that Marvel will follow the Armor Wars comics storyline. In the story, Tony Stark finds out about his tech being used by his enemies without his knowledge, and Justin Hammer is the one behind this.

The movie might also follow the same story, although it will be James Rhodes protecting his friend’s tech this time. Talking about the film, Cheadle said in an interview with Comic Book,

It’s going to very surprising to a lot of people. And there’s just going to be so much opportunity to learn a lot about him and for him to learn about himself and for us, hopefully, to really be able to get behind what makes him tick.

The movie will be connected to Ironheart as Riri Williams has already constructed her own suit in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In her upcoming series, she will probably be doing the same, which will bring her to Rhodes’ notice. However, Secret Invasion also added another layer to his story.

It was seen that Rhodes was held in captivity by the Skrulls for years, although it is still unclear when he was abducted. It will be interesting to see how Marvel will tie up all the ongoing storylines to set up Rhodes’ story.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Secret Invasion are available to stream on Disney+.
