Many might think that his last fight with Arlong which was indeed supremely engaging and thrilling, was the most difficult scene for Iñaki Godoy to film. If you think so then you’re mistaken! Even though the fight was the scene that we all waited for, for Godoy it wasn’t a difficult one. It was the first episode titled Romance Dawn in which Luffy and Koby are adrift on a lifeboat. According to Teen Vogue, Godoy said:

“I think for me, the hardest thing to film… I had this one scene with Koby in a dinghy, where we’re talking about dreams and that he wants to be a Marine. That scene particularly, it was one of my first scenes that I filmed.”

The actor explained that the first episode when Luffy and Koby talk about their dreams and Koby mentions his dream to become a Marine rather than Luffy’s to become the king of Pirates was the most challenging one to shoot as it established Luffy’s character arc.

This might sound a bit weird to witness the tough fight scene with the villainous Arlong couldn’t challenge Godoy. However, it is the reality that Iñaki Godoy shared himself through Teen Vogue. While the actor was explaining about filming the dreams scene that undeniably crafted Luffy’s story arc by letting his friend follow his dream, Godoy explained:

“It was a very important scene because Luffy’s all about dreams. So I knew I had to get this scene right, this is what the character is all about. And there are a lot of things that I did in that scene at the beginning that I changed.”

Iñaki Godoy emphasizes what’s important to his character and the first episode helped him showcase Luffy’s complexities. He added:

“I did rehearsals for that scene with my director, and I think it worked out pretty well. But it definitely was a process, getting to that point of, oh, like, there’s this side of Luffy that… he is very kind and nice. He’s not just a ball of energy. He’s a ball of energy who listens.”

He mentioned doing rehearsals with the director as it was the most important scene for Luffy to connect with the audience and stated that his character is not only good at flaunting his energy but also at being a good listener which helped Luffy understand the dreams of all his crew members and contributed to achieving them.
