The 32-year-old rapper received public recognition after releasing the music videos for her songs Pu**y and Two Times on YouTube both gaining mass reach and popularity.

The rapper before sharing her then-retirement plans was surrounded by controversy concerning her single I am the Stripclub after being accused of blackfishing. While many thought that her sudden break from the industry was related to this controversy, the rapper stated her reasons during her announcement. For the unversed, the term blackfishing refers to white women who pretend to have dark skin through a combination of makeup and traditional black hairstyles and fashion.

Back in 2021, Azalea announced her apparent retirement through Twitter to her fans by penning that the End of an Era would be her final album so that she can take a break and get inspired beyond music.

“End of an Era is so special to me because after I drop my album next month I am going to take a few years to focus on other creative projects and things I’m feeling passionate about and inspired by, beyond music. I’m excited for you guys to see different sides to me in the future.”

The singer announced her comeback on Monday morning through the same social media platform clarifying that she was willingly walking away from her music career and stating the reason behind the same. “A year ago I was willing to walk away from music because I was tired of the negative energy it attracted.” However, she announced her comeback by writing that she has learned how not minding anything could also lead her to negativity. “But what I’ve learned is that even when I’m minding my business, y’all gonna be negative AND nosey. So if I can’t have peace, neither can you. I’m coming back. Cry about it.”

Back in July 2021, the rapper was stirred in the controversy regarding her single I am the Stripclub which received a huge backlash from the viewers as the speculations were made that she had attempted to darken her skin tone. However, the singer denied all the accusations that were speculated around her claiming that she only altered her appearance by hiding her blonde locks for a dark brunette wig.

She wrote on Twitter at that time, “I can’t care about something that ridiculous and baseless. I’m wearing a shade 6 in Armani foundation, it’s the same shade I’ve worn for the last 3 years.” She paused her music career after the controversy however the rapper did not address the backlash directly.
