Abbott Elementary’s co-showrunner Justin Halpern hints about Season 3 plot

ABC’s mockumentary series Abbott Elementary created by Quinta Brunson is gearing up to make its return on February 7th, 2024. ABC recently released the official trailer for season three. Justin Halpern, co-show runner had shared with Decider via US Magazine about what viewers can expect from the upcoming season. He said,

“The second season ended up talking charter schools and the push and pull of those, and the first season was sort of about the challenges of being woefully underfunded. And so I think we have an idea, we’ve talked with Quinta, and I think there’s a larger overarching idea that we’ve sort of landed on for season 3 that I think is really interesting and I’ve never seen it on TV before.”

Brunson along with the main cast including Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Chris Perfetti, Lisa Ann Walters, and William Stanford Davis are expected to return too. According to Deadline, three new faces will also be seen on the show in recurring roles in the form of Josh Segarra, Kimia Behpoornia, and Benjamin Norris.

Season 3 will return with two premiere episodes, which will follow a total of 14 episodes. Bruson had shared with Deadline via US Magazine about the cut down of the number of episodes, which was due to the delayed response to the WGA’s request for fair pay. She said at the time that they did 22 episodes last season and that is a lot of TV especially for her as she not only stars on the show but also writes it. The actress acknowledged that she welcomed a shorter season because it was tiring, exhausting work.
