In the era of superheroes dominating the entertainment world, Latin actor Xolo Mariduena is a rising star. The Cobra Kai actor’s Blue Beetle has been the talk of the town for months before its release. DC’s Blue Beetle is the first Latino-led superhero project. The sci-fi movie is gradually inching toward its theatrical release in August.

Xolo Mariduena would be seen playing the character of Jamie Reyes,  a DC comic character. The movie circles the turn of events that takes place after he is chosen to become a symbiotic host to an old alien biotechnological relic Scarab, who ends up granting him a powerful exoskeleton, that turns him into the Blue Beetle. Recently DC released a promotional poster of Blue Beetle on social media, which has given birth to speculation regarding the link between Batman and Blue Beetle. 

Is There A Batman Connection With Xolo Mariduena’s Blue Beetle?

Amidst the major changes taking place at the DC, Xolo Mariduena’s Blue Beetle has already paved its way toward the theatre. Media outlet Holywood Handle shared a DC-released promotional poster of the upcoming movie Bluer Beetle on X, previously known as Twitter. According to the poster, Xolo Mariduena is seen in his graduation cap and gown along with his Blue Beetle attire, captioned as-

“He’s the first superhero in his family.”

In the poster, a medal on Blue Beetle’s neck has brought forward the rumored connection of Batman with the superhero. The medal has Gotham Law imprinted on it, which indirectly shows that the superhero would be graduating from Gotham City University.

This is not the first time Gothan University has been mentioned in DC’s projects. Previously, it was mentioned in Zack Snyder’s Justice League too. However, not much has been revealed about the link between Xolo Mariduena’s Blue Beetle and Batman. The superhero last appeared in Ezra Miller’s The Flash which was reprised by the actor Michael Keaton

Xolo Mariduena On Playing The DC’s First Latin Superhero Blue Beetle

DC’s Blue Beetle is the first Latino-led DC project. Amidst the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, there has been no update on the delay in the movie. During an interview with the media outlet Collider, actor Xolo Mariduena spoke about being associated with the billion-dollar superhero franchise. The Parenthood actor said-

“That part of things, making everything canon, is a very exciting part of the process. I got to come in during pre-production and help carve out who Jaime is, as a character. I was really grateful that Angel gave me a lot of liberties, in terms of trusting me, as a performer. Jaime feels so honest.”

He further added-

“Although we’re telling this larger-than-life story, it felt really easy, especially with the help of the family, to get those moments. Our rehearsal days weren’t getting the lines right. It was talking as a family. Once that part locked into place, the rest of the dominoes went perfectly”

The rumors around the sequel of Xolo Mariduena’s Blue Beetle are already doing the rounds of the tinsel town. However, a lot depends upon the box office numbers and audience reception of the movie.

Blue Beetle is set to hit theaters on August 18, 2023.
