Linkin Park is one of those bands that will forever hold a special place in our hearts. The band first rose to fame with the release of their first studio album, Hybrid Theory back in 2000. Ever since then, Linkin Park was considered one of the best rock genre bands of all time. The band was very well known for their fusion of different genres throughout their run of 17 years. Back in 2017, the band’s lead vocalist and one of its founding members, Chester Bennington left a void in everyone’s heart that will never be filled.

Chester Bennington committed suicide in July 2017 after having a tough year professionally and personally. Although the band was allegedly struggling towards their latter years, they were still the favorites to their millions of fans throughout the world. Bennington’s close friend, Mike Shinoda opened up recently about how he dealt with his friend’s death.

Mike Shinoda opens up about Chester Bennington’s death

Mike Shinoda is now Linkin Park’s lead vocalist and secondary guitarist although the band has not made any music since Chester Bennington’s death. Shinoda was one of Bennington’s best friends and he recently opened up about dealing with his death. He appeared on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show and revealed at some point even he felt angry with him. Shinoda further explained that not only him but also maybe some of the fans were angry after losing him. He said, “That’s natural, that’s normal. There’s different stages of grief and anger is in there.

Mike Shinoda explains the former Linkin Park lead vocalist’s depressive episodes

Howard Stern further questioned Shinoda about the depths of Bennington’s depression. Shinoda said, “Nobody knew about the depths of his depression.” Mike Shinoda further explained that he and Chester Bennington were very different from one another. There was a very clear difference between their childhood and their upbringing. Shinoda explained that Chester Bennington had a very tough childhood and was very different than what he had seen.

Back in the early days of the band when they were still struggling, it was kinda hard to deal with Bennington. Mike Shinoda explained, “It was hard, and in the midst of all that … he’d just go missing and come back obliterated, like you couldn’t even talk to him.” He further revealed that it was also kind of funny when he came back like that. But the aftermath of it all was too tough to handle. Shinoda said, “There was an element of Chester that was very fun sometimes when he was that way and then usually the next day it would be so dark. He’s super hungover, he’s angry at everybody, yelling at everybody.

Mike Shinoda also revealed that he considered giving up music altogether after Chester Bennington’s death. Linkin Park also dropped an unreleased song from 2003 earlier this month that had the voice of Bennington in it.
