It is truly a very sad time for the music and entertainment industry as we lost one of the musical gems on April 14, 2023. The sudden demise of Irish band The Script’s lead guitarist and co-founder Mark Sheehan passing away at the young age of 46, has left his family and fans heartbroken. As per reports, the Hall of Fame star died in the hospital after a brief illness. The guitarist is survived by his wife and children.
The band has released a statement, which reads,
“Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness. The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time.”

Sheehan had formed the band The Script, with frontman Danny O’Donoghue and drummer Glen Power. They released six studio albums over the last two decades, and their last album Sunsets & Full Moons was released in 2019. The Script has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, and their songs have been featured on multiple famous TV shows including 90210, Ghost Whisperer, The Hills, Waterloo Road, EastEnders, Made in Chelsea, and Ian Somerhalder‘s The Vampire Diaries.
Mark Sheehan’s Family is Heartbroken
The guitarist, Mark Sheehan was born and brought up in Liberties, in the south inner city of Dublin. His father, Gerard, passed away when he was just 14 years old, and his mother, Rachel, died in 2006. The actor met his wife, Rina Sheehan when he was producing and working in different studios. His wife is originally from Texas and was working in the US as a singer. Sheehan married her at the young age of 25, and have three beautiful kids.
The guitarist shared in an interview with Mirror in 2008,
“I was producing and working in different studios, and she was a studio session singer and backing singer.
And we just kind of clicked in the usual way you do. We got married three years ago, and now we have baby number one on the way.”
Mark Sheehan is survived by his wife and three children namely Cameron, Avery, and Lil. The late guitarist always kept his personal life private and not much is known about his family.
Mark Sheehan took a break in 2022 to spend time with his family
The Script frontman O’Donoghue told the Sunday World that Sheehan had missed the American leg of their greatest hits tour to spend time with his family.
O’Donoghue said,
“It’s his story to tell, but yeah, I guess if I could paraphrase, his children needed a father and his wife needed a husband,”.
“He’s been the engine of The Script for such a long time, [I told him] that ‘if you want to take a bit of time out for your family you are more than welcome to, and I insist on you going and doing it’.
He took a little bit of time off. You get refreshed, then you come back with a new zest for life. And I believe it was the best thing that could have happened for all of us.”
The Script band is scheduled for a European tour in June this year.
