“I don’t want to say too much about it”: New Black Panther Spinoff Show Gets Cryptic Update
Last year, Marvel fans were surprised to learn about an upcoming Black Panther animated series called Eyes of Wakanda coming to Disney+. Details have been scarce about the mysterious new show, but Marvel producer Brad Winderbaum recently provided an intriguing update. While promoting the new Echo series, Winderbaum shed some light on how Eyes of Wakanda came together while also hinting at major surprises in store for fans.
How Did Eyes of Wakanda Come About?
As per Comicbook.com, according to Brad Winderbaum, Eyes of Wakanda is being produced in partnership with Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media, with Coogler as an executive producer. The concept for the series was pitched to both Coogler and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige by longtime Marvel storyboard artist Todd Harris.
“He pitched the show to Ryan and he pitched the show to Kevin and I, and we were like, ‘Let’s do it,'” Winderbaum explained. “I don’t want to say too much about it, only that people do not see it coming.”
While remaining tight-lipped on story details, Winderbaum’s quote indicates there will be major unexpected elements to Eyes of Wakanda. Fans are eager to see how the visual scale of Wakanda is brought to life in animation. It’s likely the medium of animation will allow for an even more fantastical take on the advanced African nation.
Eyes of Wakanda also provides an opportunity to further explore lesser-known characters and corners of the Black Panther mythos. With Winderbaum promising that “people do not see it coming,” it seems there will be some fresh, inventive approaches to the material that will catch viewers by surprise.
Will Eyes of Wakanda Replace a Live-Action Spinoff?
Previously, there were indications that a live-action Kingdom of Wakanda spinoff series was in the works for Disney+. However, Marvel producer Nate Moore hinted that plans stalled due to the team’s focus on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
It’s possible Eyes of Wakanda was greenlit to retool ideas originally conceived for the live-action show. By going the animated route, Marvel can expand the scope and imagination of Wakanda without the restrictions of live-action.

What’s Next for the Black Panther Franchise?
While a third Black Panther film hasn’t been officially announced, the creatives behind the series have hinted it’s a strong possibility. However, Wakanda Forever was well-received by fans.
“We really want to see how audiences receive the film, and I think Ryan’s really interested to see how the film plays before we decide,” said producer Nate Moore.
