“I think they have enough time travel on Loki”: MCU Canceled Major Marvel Hero’s Appearance on Brie Larson’s The Marvels
Marvel Studios’ recent release, The Marvels is a sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel and a continuation of 2022’s television mini-series Ms. Marvel. It stars Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris in the lead roles. Nia DaCosta directed the movie from the screenplay by DaCosta, Megan McDonnell, and Elissa Karasik.
Since its release on November 7, 2023, the movie has drawn mixed reviews from the critics and the audience, with praise for the chemistry between Vellani, Larson, and Parris but at the same time, criticism for plot and tonal shifts. Some publications have already announced that the movie has miserably tanked at the box office, but did you know that there was one from Guardians of the Galaxy who was reportedly going to appear in The Marvels before the studios called it off?

Nia DaCosta shares how Guardians of the Galaxy’s Adam Warlock would have appeared in The Marvels
The Marvels director Nia DaCosta appeared on Jake’s Takes to promote her movie and shared that she wanted Guardians of the Galaxy’s Adam Warlock, played by actor Will Poulter, to appear in The Marvels when asked what is the one thing she could have done if she had a full reign within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She further explained,
“Actually, interestingly, one of the first things I pitched with way back when was having Adam Warlock and time travel in the movie. But Adam was going to be in Guardians 3 and I think they have enough time travel on Loki, so we didn’t do that, but we have some fun stuff in the realm in the movie.”
She discussed,
“So, my big plan, which is part of what’s amazing about doing something in such a big universe, so many films, was like, ‘Well, if we introduce Adam Warlock here, we bring him into the present and then in another movie we understand where he was coming from sort of thing,’ so it was our contemporary for the movie.”
Adam Warlock had appeared in the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy and, by the end of the movie, was a part of the team’s new roster. In an interview with British GQ, Poulter discussed how he would like for his character to appear in Black Panther and Avengers.
Iman Vellani says The Marvels‘ box office performance is not her focus
The young actress Iman Vellani who plays the character of Kamala Khan in the movie shared during an interview with Yahoo Entertainment that the performance of their movie at the box office is not her focus, but it is indeed an issue for Disney CEO Bob Iger. She said,
“I don’t want to focus on something that’s not even in my control, because what’s the point? That’s for Bob Iger.”
She continued,
“The box office has nothing to do with me. I’m happy with the finished product and the people that I care about enjoyed the film. It’s genuinely a good time watching this movie, and that’s all we can ask for with these films. It has superheros, it takes place in space, it’s not that deep and it’s about team work and sisterhood.”
Iman lastly added that The Marvels is a fun movie and she is just so happy that she can share it with people. The movie also stars Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris.
The Marvels is currently playing in theatres.
