Ncuti Gatwa is known for his impressive performance in the Netflix show Sex Education. The actor has successfully established his name in the industry and is undoubtedly being acclaimed for it. He also bagged the lead role in the cult classic show Doctor Who. The announcement about Gatwa’s casting was made in May 2022. 

The 30-year-old, making his Hollywood debut with Barbie, was certainly excited about his role in the BBC series. During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the actor revealed how he ruined his Doctor Who casting by blurting it while drunk.

Gatwa, even before the official announcement, informed former Doctor Who star Matt Smith that he had been selected as the Fifteenth Doctor in a drunk state. Gatwa discussed his experience with Doctor Who and shared that he once had an encounter with a former series star. He met Smith, who plays the Eleventh Doctor, at a party before his formal casting was made public. 

Ncuti Gatwa explained he drunkenly revealed his casting to Smith by telling him, “I’m following in your footsteps!

The statement was confusing for the 40-year-old until the official announcement was made. The actor supported the 30-year-old for being the new doctor in the BBC series.

Ncuti Gatwa rose to fame after playing Eric Effiong in Netflix’s hugely popular show Sex Education. The actor is getting his biggest breakthrough as he was cast to play the lead role in Doctor Who. Gatwa will be the Fifteenth Doctor in the famous BBC series. 

The 30-year-old actor will take on the role of the principal Time Lord for the upcoming season of the science fiction show. He will follow David Tennant’s Fourteenth Doctor in a special episode that is anticipated to premiere this fall. The actor will then be joined by Millie Gibson’s new companion Ruby Sunday in Doctor Who season 14. 

Being the first black doctor to be part of the BBC series, Gatwa has confirmed he’s sticking around for more than just one season of Doctor Who. The actor has received support from Matt Smith, Jodie Whittaker, and Peter Capaldi for his casting in the show. Colin Baker, Paul McGann, and Christopher Eccleston posted encouraging remarks for the star on social media.
