‘It ruined my life’: Stranger Things Star David Harbour Reveals His Dangerous Addiction That Nearly Consumed Him
After his confession of having a huge crush on Winona Ryder, Stranger Things actor David Harbour who plays the role of Jim Hopper has now opened up about his dangerous obsession that nearly consumed his life. While the actor has recently become Hollywood’s heartthrob, Harbour opens up about his addiction in the past, and how he overcame it.
David Harbour and His Addiction
Jim Hopper is one of the protagonists, which works as a chief of police in Hawkins, Indiana. He investigates the strange happenings in the series of Stranger Things. Harbour describes this addiction as being very wild. It had been visibly being distractive and made a huge impact on the actor.
Before David Harbour rose to stardom, the actor was addicted to World of Warcraft. He revealed his obsession with the game that nearly ruined his life.
“In 2005, I played the s**t out of this game. It ruined my life for like a year. I mean, I was like out of my mind. I was a Night elf warrior called Norad, and he was second tank of my whole guild“, said the actor.
Harbour then comes across a very unusual turning point which was yet another game that rather snapped him out of his addiction. He was playing The Sims wherein he has an avatar the game who was an actor. He kept instructing the avatar to focus on his career life and work on developing relevant traits. But all the avatar wanted to do was play games. The actor felt this to be much related to him and in turn, helped him change himself.

“You have to work on your speech and on your body, right? But I remember my avatar got to a certain level in his career, and I kept trying to get him to work on his speech – he was like a supporting player – but I wanted him to work on his speech and his body, and all he wanted to do was sit around and play video games, and I kept being like, and then I was like, had this vortex moment where I saw my life before my–“, before revealing that he did manage to ‘come back‘ from his obsession to turn his life around.
