“It was a very specific topic of conversation”: After Iron Man, Another $1B Franchise Remains ‘Priority’ for Robert Downey Jr.
In the world of celebrities, everyone is aware of the massive hit career of Robert Downey Jr. who is a two-time Academy Award nominee. Iconically known as Iron Man this actor is known for slaying roles in and beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Robert Downey Jr. is one of the most accomplished actors of his generation, not only renowned for playing Iron Man but for other Hollywood movies too. The actor’s career began when he was a kid and since then the Due Date star has earned an immense reputation in the industry. Robert Downey Jr. has again set his eyes on a billion-dollar movie.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Preference For Another Billion-Dollar Franchise
Robert Downey Jr. has impressed critics and mass audiences with his portrayal of a Marvel superhero Tony Stark or Iron Man. The 2008 Iron Man movie was one of that year’s biggest hits earning Robert Jr. an incredible fanbase. But the actor’s ambitions run deeper beyond the MCU. In an interview, Robert Jr. and his wife revealed that he has set his priority for another billion-dollar movie that will replicate the success he had by playing Iron Man. Susan Downey told The Wrap:
“Well, here’s what I can tell you. And Amanda can attest to this. Prior to this, we had lunch together with Robert, the three of us. And it was a very specific topic of conversation. So yes, it is in the hopper. We’re going to do it when it’s right, with the right people, but it is a priority for the company and a priority for Robert.”
This indicated the hope for Sherlock Holmes 3 but no specific indications were given as to when the project might start and be released in the future. In the Guy Ritchie movie Robert Jr. portrays the complex and distinctive titular role of Sherlock Holmes which was one of the reasons why fans have been waiting for the third installment. The book series by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has inspired more than a few adaptations and stories in television, gaming, and film making Sherlock Holmes a character known worldwide.
When Will Sherlock Holmes 3 Come Out?
In The Wrap interview and several others from the past, Robert Downey Jr. has expressed his commitment to the Sherlock Holmes franchise and how the movies have been the actor’s priority since they were announced. The third installment still can come out as its early development began soon after Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows but delays, production issues, and the impact of COVID-19 were severe on Sherlock Holmes 3, and since then the movie production has yet to materialize. So Sherlock Holmes 3 is still a long way from filming and it can start its production when the director feels right.
But one thing is certain if the movie comes out in the future it will showcase Robert Jr., reprising his role as the iconic detective from 221B Baker Street and solving the complex mysteries of the world. The actor has slowed down his acting work a bit after ending his tenure in the MCU, but his recent role in Christopher Nolan‘s Oppenheimer was loved by the fans. Even though the actor has lowered the pace of his work, his commitment to the Sherlock Holmes franchise remains active.
