As the DC universe is set for a reboot on-screen, there has been a fresh rumor that James Gunn‘s Superman: Legacy will cast a Marvel actor to replace Russell Crowe who played Jor-El, superman’s biological father in Man of Steel. Crowe had a significant part in the movie as his character sends his son (superman) to Earth as its protector. But this emerging speculation suggests that Marvel actor Kurt Russell will take on the role of Jor-El in the upcoming James Gunn project which is said to be the DCU’s first film and won’t be a typical origin story for Kal-El/Clark Kent, nor will it be an origin for the universe at large.

James Gunn did not reveal its plot much but what we know will happen for sure is that Superman will be somewhat younger and looking to bring together his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing raised in Kansas. The new post that is shared on X depicts the character Jor-El being played by Kurt Russell and seems like they’ve drawn pictures of the character that resembles Kurt Russell. The post also shared a visualized idea of Jor-El as a very tall character whose suit has blue color highlights. However, as nothing has been confirmed that the Marvel actor will play Crowe’s character, it’s an engaging concept that might or might not happen.

Despite the end of Writers Guild of America (WGA) strikes, James Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy is supposedly going to experience a delay in its filming schedule which is also destined to be the first film in the revamped DC universe. Per Variety, the principal photograph was initially set to start in 2024 but the impact of the WAG and SAF-AFTRA strikes and work stoppages is expected to begin in the spring. Notably, neither Gunn nor Warner Bros. have officially commented on the reported delay.

Almost every major film production was affected by the strikes that put them on hold and now as the WGA strike has ended, the SAG-AFTRA is still ongoing. Although there have been discussions about making a better and more favorable outcome. David Corenswet has taken over the role of Henry Cavill as the new Superman and the film is described as a workplace origin story. Superman: Legacy will also feature Rachel Brosnahan as Los Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan as the villainous metamorpho, and many other talented stars.
