Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur Series adds Blade Star Wesley Snipes
Disney’s forthcoming animated series Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur will be featuring a packed lineup of all guest stars.
As part of San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Marvel HQ premiered new footage from the series, which will premiere on Disney Channel next year. Moreover, Marvel also announced the impressive roster of guest stars that have joined the voice cast of the cartoons, including Andy Cohen (Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen), Alison Brie (Community, GLOW), Daveed Diggs (Broadway’s Hamilton), Jennifer Hudson (Respect), Maya Hawke (Stranger Things), Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother, The Avengers), Cliff “Method Man” Smith (Power Book II: Ghost), and Wesley Snipes (Blade).
Here’s the first look:
“Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” follows 13-year-old super-genius Lunella Lafayette (aka Moon Girl) and her 10-ton T-Rex, Devil Dinosaur, as they protect New York City’s Lower East Side from danger. Based on Marvel’s hit comic books, the highly-anticipated Disney Branded Television animated series is slated to premiere in 2023 on Disney Channel and Disney+.
Obviously, many actors are no strangers to Marvel properties. Snipes famously starred and showed up as Eric Brooks/Blade in New Line Cinema’s Blade trilogy beginning from 1998 to 2004. Meanwhile, Smulders has moved on to portray Maria Hill in the MCU The Avengers. Rapper Method Man even guest starred as himself on Netflix’s Luke Cage.
Brie helmed an episode of the Disney+ series Marvel’s 616. Finally, while Stranger Things star Maya Hawke has not earlier appeared in a Marvel project herself, her father, Ethan Hawke, recently starred as main villain Arthur Harrow on the Disney+ series Moon Knight.
The Show Still has a long way to go
Created by Amy Reeder, Brandon Montclare, and Natacha Bustos, Moon Girl debuted in 2015’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1.
Meanwhile, Devil Dinosaur was originally created by Jack Kirby, who made his first appearance in 1978’s Devil Dinosaur #1. A Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur animated series entered development in 2018 before it got the green light at Disney Channel three years back.
Created by Laurence Fishburne and Helen Sugland
The show is created by Laurence Fishburne and Helen Sugland and Matrix star Laurence Fishburne. The main voice cast of the animated series includes Diamond White as Lunella aka Moon Girl; Lunella’s grandmother; Alfre Woodard as Mimi, Lunella’s best friend and manager; Sasheer Zamata as Adria, Libe Barer as Casey, Lunella’s mom; Jermaine Fowler as James Jr., Lunella’s dad; and Gary Anthony Williams as Pops, also Lunella’s grandfather. Fishburne voices The Beyonder in a recurring role.
