Patty Jenkins is the brain behind bringing Wonder Woman onscreen. The Writer-turned-director has helmed both installments of the Gal Gadot starrer movie. Gadot’s portrayal of the Amazonian princess won hearts globally, and she became a fan-favorite character in the DC franchise.

But with the leadership change, James Gunn scrapped Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3. The threequel of Wonder Woman has suddenly got fans’ attention as a trusted scooper has revealed the could have been story of Jenkins’ film. The trusted scooper, CanWeGetSomeToast posted on X, (formerly Twitter) details of Wonder Woman 3.

According to the tweet, the scrapped threequel of Gadot’s film was reportedly set in the present day of the DC Extended Universe, after the events of Justice League and the superhero’s cameos in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash. According to the rumors, the film would have featured other DC characters, one of them being Ben Affleck’s Batman. The tweet read:

However, there has been no confirmation from Jenkins, Warner Bros., or DC Studios about the story of Wonder Woman 3. Till then, the post is best to take as rumored story details.  Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot were initially attached to return for Wonder Woman 3, which was originally in development under the previous leadership of DC Films. However, the project was scrapped in December 2022 when James Gunn and Peter Safran were named head of DC Studios.

Gadot did, however, mention that Wonder Woman 3 was still being worked on at DC in August 2023 and that Gunn and Safran had assured her that she had “nothing to worry about.” But soon after, a report stated that DC was still not planning to proceed with the threequel.

The Heart of Stone actress though, had an optimistic view about the cancellation of her superhero film. She told to Total Film,

“To me, starting and developing stories that I’m passionate about is an incredible thing. The fact that I don’t have to sit still at home and just wait for the next offer is something that makes me feel empowered. I enjoy doing it, it keeps me alive.”

There is no certainty of Gal Gadot returning as Wonder Woman in the DCU, as currently, the only Wonder Woman-related project in development is the live-action prequel series Paradise Lost.

Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984 are streaming on Max.
