Shakira Accuses Spanish Authorities Using Tax Fraud Case To Character-Assassinate Her, Bring Down Her $300M Fortune – Claims She Paid $10M in Taxes to the US
In September, Colombian singer Shakira was accused of tax fraud by the Spanish authorities. She was accused of failing to pay $13.9 million in taxes on income she earned between 2012 and 2014. However, she claims that she was not a full-time resident of Spain from 2012 to 2014 and actually paid $10,141,075 in taxes to the U.S. government. She has now accused the authorities of launching a “smear campaign” against her. She claims that it was an attempt to ruin her image. The singer also ended her relationship with Spanish footballer Gerard Pique in June.

Singer Shakira is reportedly accusing the Spanish authorities of launching a “smear campaign” against her. The Spanish authorities accused her of tax fraud. The singer claimed that the authorities “violated her right to privacy” by handling matters so publicly and without the presumption of innocence.
She has proven herself to be innocent as her legal team also laid out the reasons why she is not liable for the tax bill as she was not a resident of Spain during the mentioned time period.

In September, Shakira was accused of committing tax fraud by the Spanish authorities. As per the authorities, she failed to pay $13.9 million in taxes on income she earned between 2012 and 2014. However, the singer claims that she was not a full-time resident of Spain from 2012 to 2014 and actually paid roughly $10 million in taxes to the U.S. government.
As per Spanish law, the singer only has to pay taxes if she spends 183 days or more in the European country in one single year. The authorities further claim that she declared herself as a Spanish tax resident in 2015 as she settled there with footballer Gerard Pique.
Shakira and Gerard Pique ended their relationship
Shakira and Gerard Pique announced their split in a joint statement in June putting an end to their 12-year-long relationship. The two started dating in 2010 after they filmed a music video for Shakira’s hit song, Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).
As per reports, Gerard Pique’s infidelity could possibly be the reason why they decided to end their relationship. Sources say Gerard Pique has been dating Clara Chia Marti, for more than a year now and when the singer got to know about his affair, she called off their relationship.
