He was fired from the show after five days due to a viral clip from a 2018 episode of Matt And Shane’s Secret Podcast, which contained ethnic slurs. Shane Gillis is back to Saturday Night Live and will host the February 24th episode. The comedian was removed from the show back in 2019 due to his inappropriate ethnic slurs. According to the reputed media outlet Variety, in a now-deleted post that dated back to 2018, Gillis told his co-host, Matt McCusker-

According to Variety, the American comedian and podcaster will be hosting an episode of Saturday Night Live soon. According to a post on X, the comedian had mentioned that he would end up taking his own life if he would ever host Saturday Night Live. 

After Shane Gillis was fired from SNL, he promised his audience that if he ever hosted, he would commit suicide during his monologue.

Shane Gillis was apologetic about the entire controversy and even publicly apologized on X. His statement mentioned-

“It feels ridiculous for comedians to be making serious public statements but here we are. I’m a comedian who was funny enough to get SNL. That can’t be taken away.Of course I wanted an opportunity to prove myself at SNL, but I understand it would be too much of a distraction. I respect the decision they made. I’m honestly grateful for the opportunity. I was always a Mad TV guy anyway.”

He was trolled by the netizens on social media for his racial slur which cost him his public image and even his career as a cast member of the Saturday Night Live show.

Shane Gillis landed in a mess after a clip from a 2018 podcast went viral on the internet within five days of joining Saturday Night Live. His distasteful jokes on Islamophobia, racism, and homophobia were blown out of proportion and painted him in bad light. According to Variety, NBC had decided to discontinue with Shane Gillis. As reported by Variety, the public statement mentioned-

“After talking with Shane Gillis, we have decided that he will not be joining ‘SNL. We want ‘SNL’ to have a variety of voices and points of view within the show, and we hired Shane on the strength of his talent as a comedian and his impressive audition for ‘SNL.’

The statement further mentioned-

“We were not aware of his prior remarks that have surfaced over the past few days. The language he used is offensive, hurtful, and unacceptable. We are sorry that we did not see these clips earlier, and that our vetting process was not up to our standard.”

The re-entry of Gillis on Saturday Night Live has become the talk of the town and the American comedian is back into the media spotlight. Shaen Gillis will be appearing on Saturday Night Live with the musical guest 21 Savage for the February 24, episode.
