In the ever-so-dynamic world of superheroes, things are bound to be interesting any moment to tune in. However, both Marvel and DC, the studios known for creating immersive superhero worlds are falling short in giving audiences the best experience.

DC has famously been on a flop streak with its latest releases like Shazam 2, Black Adam, and The Flash. Marvel on the other hand is churning out shows and films like anything, which has not only made things all rushed up; but has made a significant decrease in the quality of content from Marvel.

However, DC’s The Flash has recently broken a record set by Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder. And it is of worst VFX ever.

The Flash has the Worst CGI Ever

Ezra Miller‘s The Flash has made some records since its release. Most notable being one of the biggest box office bombs of this year. But one record of the Andrés Muschietti directorial has beaten Taika Waititi‘s Thor: Love and Thunder.

The latter made news for being an addition to Marvel’s ongoing lousy VFX streak in its Phase 4. Fans were infuriated when the studio campaigned for the film in the best visual effects category when that could not be farther from the truth. Fans claimed the special effects of Thor 4 were mediocre at best and unacceptable from a studio like Marvel.

As it seems, Barry Allen is giving a tough time to the Norse God, in terms of poorly done VFX.

In an interview with Corridor Crew, a team of VFX artists went over the film and discussed the worst scenes in it from a VFX point of view. Most notably, they mention the absurdity that was Henry Cavill’s CGI cameo. They comment on how in the scene, there is no expression on Cavill’s face that can make him look human. The shots of two Barry Allens meeting, The Flash with the babies, etc. were some of the extremely poorly executed CGIs.

Why the Bad VFX?

It should be noted that bad VFX has become a ubiquitous happenstance in Hollywood. Something many projects have suffered at the ends of is poorly done VFX. However, the main cause of this is the hands that perform the magic of visual effects. In their interview with  Corridor Crew, the team of VFX artists opened up on why there is this influx of poorly done VFX across all films and shows in Hollywood, saying:

“You have to do it cheaper and faster and the notes come down from the top. And the execs don’t care at all about your time—working overtime, working weekends. They’re like, ‘just get it done by this deadline’ because at the end of the day, the shareholders of this kind of stuff, they don’t care about the CG quality. Will you, the audience member, eat it? If you will eat it and pay us for it, we’ll just throw it your way. So in a way, this backlash is to the benefit of VFX artists, because it’s like look, we’re not just going to keep taking this. At a certain point we expect a certain quality and a certain care to be given to the characters that we love.”

The state of the VFX industry, the underpaid jobs, and unreal work expectations and deadlines are huge factors that have made it hard for artists to give their best.
