Rumors emerged this week claiming that actress Pom Klementieff had been added to the cast of director James Gunn’s DC reboot Superman: Legacy. Klementieff is best known for her role as Mantis in Gunn’s Marvel franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy. But Gunn took to social media himself to deny these casting rumors outright. In a post on Twitter, the co-CEO of DC Studios clarified that not only is Klementieff not starring in Superman: Legacy, but her potential involvement has never even been discussed for the project.

DC Studios head James Gunn took to Twitter this week to deny rumors that Pom Klementieff has been cast in the upcoming Superman reboot, Superman: Legacy

“Despite Pom being one of my favorite actors to work with, this is 100% not true. Not only is Pom not in the movie, but no one has ever even discussed her being in the movie, nor do I have any idea what role she would possibly play,” Gunn wrote.

The rumors originated from a report by The Hollywood Reporter claiming that Klementieff and actress Miriam Shor had been added to the cast. While Gunn confirmed Shor is not officially cast either, he said he would like to find a role for her in the DC Universe.

Gunn has assembled an eclectic cast to launch his new DC Universe. British actor David Corenswet will don the cape as Superman/Clark Kent, while Oscar-nominee Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane. Other confirmed stars include Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen.

Is the cast for Superman: Legacy too crowded?

Some fans have wondered if the sizable ensemble could overshadow Corenswet’s Superman. But Gunn defended the cast size on Twitter, saying,

“The whole point was it’s NOT a large film — I mean, not in terms of cast. It’s normal for single protagonist films to have other characters.”

Gunn went on to criticize “cameo p*rn,” where characters appear briefly without serving the story.

“If a character is in [the] film, they have to have a reason to be there story-wise,” he tweeted.

So, while the cast may be ensemble-sized, expect meaningful roles for each star.

Plot details are still mostly under wraps. But the official synopsis states the film will see Superman reconcile “his heritage with his human upbringing,” while embodying “truth, justice and the American way in a world that views kindness as old-fashioned.”

With filming slated for this year, Superman: Legacy will fly into theaters on July 11, 2025, as the first entry in Gunn’s newly rebooted DC Universe.
