The film features the chocolatier’s beginnings before he became Wonka, based on Roald Dahl’s iconic novel. Before Chalamet’s portrayal of the fan-favorite character, two acclaimed actors Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp already gave life to Wonka through Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Charlie and the Chocolate Factory respectively.
However, Timothée Chalamet’s film has been breaking records since it was released, and now that it has incredibly surpassed $200 million globally, becoming the eighth highest-grossing movie of 2023 (via Variety), we wonder what’s the next milestone for Wonka. The Dune star’s film revolves around the early years of Willy Wonka discovering the European chocolate capital full of chocolate shops and how the owners are charging excessive money for sweets. Wonka was initially planned for a release in March 2023, but COVID-19 severely affected the film’s production, causing delay, and was eventually released in last year’s December.

“Honestly, it’s ‘Tim-oh-teh’. But I would not oblige you to say it like that and it can be Timothy or Timmy or Doug or Allen… That’s what it was supposed to be — my parents cursed me with that… I’m not going along with that so, it’s whatever you like.”
The interview captured the lighthearted moment when the cast members including Timothée Chalamet couldn’t resist laughing when the host noticed that the actor’s initial is THC, while Chalamet humorously says he doesn’t do drugs. Dune 2 has a star-studded cast of Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, and other talented actors in the upcoming film.
