Tom Cruise Finally Breaks Silence on Leaving $3.5 Billion Mission Impossible Franchise After his Next Movie Speculations
The Mission Impossible franchise has been a successful one thanks to the Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise. The actor has been associated with the series since the beginning. The first movie, Mission: Impossible, released in 1996, set the base of Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. He played the character in six films and is going on another journey with the seventh installment.
The 60-year-old’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, the seventh addition to the franchise, is coming out next month. It is one of the highly anticipated films in the series. Even the critics have given positive reviews to it after its first screening. With Mission: Impossible 7 set to release soon, a sequel, Dead Reckoning Part Two, is already planned for release on June 28, 2024. The Top Gun actor, in an interview, has revealed whether he will continue to play Ethan Hunt in the future.
Is Tom Cruise Leaving the Mission: Impossible Franchise?
Tom Cruise has been the face of the Mission: Impossible franchise since its beginning. The actor has brought to life the American spy Ethan Hunt. The first movie in the franchise came out in 1996 and has added six more to it. The seventh installment is set to release next month, and the next one is planned for the coming year.
Cruise, with his charming personality and breathtaking action sequences, has made the franchise worth $3.5 billion. With Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One making its way into the theaters soon, there have been speculations of the 60-year-old leaving the franchise.
During an interview, the Top Gun star addressing these rumors spoke about whether he will be playing Ethan Hunt for the last time. He said,
“You know, I can’t tell you right now. I want to enjoy this moment right now, and it’s Part One and Part 2. This is a big action-adventure movie for everyone and I look forward to seeing it.”
Cruise went on to speak about his partnership with director Christopher McQuarrie. He said,
“We’re just one constant story that love talking about movies and stories and action and stories and more stories and movies and more movies.”
The Jack Reacher actor, known for performing stunts on his own gave some insights about his preparation. Tom Cruise said,
“It was years preparing. I mean, I’ve been riding motorcycles since I was a little kid, raced cars and spent a lot of time just with aerobatics, airplanes, helicopters and parachutes… It all kind of came to that moment.”
Although the actor didn’t give more details about him leaving the franchise, there is a high chance of him saying goodbye to the character Ethan Hunt.

The story of the Mission Impossible film series, written by Bruce Geller, centers on Tom Cruise’s character Ethan Hunt. He plays the role of an American spy who is a member of the Impossible Mission Force (IMF). The franchise started with the first film Mission Impossible which came out in 1996.
Over the years, the franchise has expanded by adding six movies to it and the seventh one is on its way. The prequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One came out in 2018 setting the base for the fans.
In the upcoming film, Cruise’s character Hunt and the IMF are tasked with discovering a particularly hazardous weapon. For the sake of the survival of the human species, Hunt had to take any necessary steps to get the specified weapon.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will release on July 12, 2023.
