There has been resistance in Germany against making movies that prominently feature Adolf Hitler and related key figures from the Nazi era. This unwillingness to accept this particular content came out of a concern that this could humanize these figures or make the audience sympathize with them and due to this, many believe that the upcoming film, which is titled Führer und Verführer (Führer and Demagogue) is being made in Slovakia now, shouldn’t receive views.

The filmmakers took note of the majority’s concerns and to ensure historical accuracy and sensitivity, they sought the advice of Thomas Weber, professor of history at Aberdeen University and an internationally-renowned academic. According to The Guardian, the historian stated that:

“We can only tear off the masks and see them as they really were and how they were able to succeed if we place them center-stage on film.”

The historical adviser explained that it is important to showcase such figures as real people on-screen, rather than just taking them as humorous or unimportant characters. The movie will help the audience understand the truth about how Hitler and Goebbels used lies and propaganda. The aim is to let people understand the truth rather than make them sympathize with any controversial figure.

Although there has been an outright ban on Führer und Verführer (Führer and Demagogue) in Germany, the movie is made taking care of the sensitivity of the people who are majorly concerned about the content. Most TV productions and historical dramas have avoided making these figures the central part and portrayed them as humorous and unimportant characters to resist controversy, but this upcoming project is said to be exceptional. It is claimed that the filmmakers have worked hard to make this movie as true as possible.

It is reported that Führer und Verführer focuses on the information warfare tactics employed by Goebbels who is known as the father of fake news. This project aims to portray how the master manipulator used propaganda and anti-semitic films to prepare the population for the mass murder of Jews and make viewers understand how the actions and propaganda were utilized.

To maintain the accuracy in Führer und Verführer (Führer and Demagogue) the makers have utilized real quotes and mixed made-up scenes with archival videos and testimonies from Holocaust survivors to create a true and powerful narrative for the audience.
