Cillian Murphy has undeniably solidified his place as one of the most prominent and distinguishable names within the realm of Hollywood. Throughout his career, he has garnered a massive following, thanks to his exceptional contributions to the industry. His latest work in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has been lauded and considered an Oscar-worthy performance.

Having made his debut back in 1996, Cillian Murphy has been in the industry for quite some time now. Interestingly, he was once hit with a question that he only saw other actors asking.

Cillian Murphy recalls being asked an “actor” question

Cillian Murphy has been in the industry for nearly two decades. Having worked with different actors during his time, he is no stranger to the various insecurities actors have. One of which stands out is actors looking for validation. However, in a rather surprising instance, Murphy was once asked for validation from his director.

During an interview with Actors Time, Cillian Murphy was asked about the worst note that a director had ever given him. Responding to the question, Murphy recalled how a director once asked him a question that he sees actors usually ask. He said:

“A director once asked me, ‘Am I a good director?’. So I mean that’s the end of the relationship then…we’re the needy ones”

Cillian Murphy screen tested for playing Batman

During his appearance on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, Cillian Murphy, who started working with Christopher Nolan in 2005 with Batman Begins, revealed that he auditioned for the part which was ultimately given to Christian Bale.

Speaking about it, Murphy recalled how he knew that he wasn’t fit to play the lead role, but still he screen-tested for Batman. He said:

“So, that was 20 years ago. I think he’d seen 28 Days Later, actually. We met up here in L.A., he for some reason wanted me to screen test for Batman, which I think I knew, and he knew, I was wrong for. But I did the test, and then saw something in that and cast me as Scarecrow in Batman Begins and we continued on making movies.”

Furthermore, he also spoke about how he managed to wear the Batman suit from Val Kilmer’s Batman Forever. While Cillian Murphy failed to land the lead role, he was ultimately cast as Scarecrow in the movie, a role that was played rather impressively by Murphy.
