Avengers: Endgame may have acted as a finale for the Infinity Saga, but it was also a starting point for several Phase 4 and Phase 5 projects. A few of them might show subtle connections to Endgame. For instance, Eternals might tell us where those immortals were during the events of Endgame. Shang-Chi might do the same. But there are certain other films and shows which were set up by Avengers: Endgame, and will directly continue those plot threads. So, here’s a list of all those projects:
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Towards the end of Avengers: Endgame, Old Man Steve handed his shield over to Sam Wilson. But Sam won’t get to be Captain America so easily. As the trailers have suggested, John Walker will be the new Captain America, and Sam will have to earn the title and the responsibility that comes with it. Bucky will also have to find his place in the post Endgame world. This is where the Sokovia Accords will be brought back even more prominently, as the governments of the world will take measures to prevent events like the Snap.
The Loki series will directly pick things up from the moment Loki escaped with the Tesseract. It will explore how Loki changed the trajectory of the entire timeline and created a branch reality in the Multiverse. And, that will put him at odds against the Time Variance Authority.
Part of Hawkeye’s plot will explore his origins. Part of it will involve Clint Barton training Kate Bishop to become the new Hawkeye. But we’ve got confirmation for the fact that the Hawkeye series will also continue Clint Barton’s Ronin arc, which was brought up in Avengers: Endgame. He trained for 5 years and became a murderous Assassin. Now, those past 5 years will catch up to him and this has been confirmed by the casting of Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, aka Echo. In the comics, she was the one who took on the mantle of Ronin after Clint Barton left it. Furthermore, The Direct reported that Yelena Belova will also appear in Hawkeye, and she’d be donning a Ronin-esque suit. So, it’d be interesting to see where that goes.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Avengers: Endgame began the Multiversal chaos by forming a few branched realities. Now it is known that WandaVision, Spider-Man 3, and even Loki will submerge into Doctor Strange 2. But, we can be sure that the Doctor Strange sequel will also connect with Endgame in a major way. Thanos reduced all the Infinity Stones to atoms. And, the ramifications of that should be felt in the highly awaited Doctor Strange movie.
Thor: Love and Thunder
Avengers: Endgame ended with Thor making Valkyrie the ruler of New Asgard. And, he left off on an adventure with the Guardians of the Galaxy. So, we’re going to see that plot thread continue in Thor: Love and Thunder. It will be interesting to see who Valkyrie’s new bride will be, what Lady Sif has been up to, how Thor reunites with Jane, and what role does Christian Bale’s Gorr has to play in all this. Thor 4 might also tie in with the setup of Beta Ray Bill from Endgame.
Black Panther 2
Avengers: Endgame did not reveal who ruled Wakanda during the time jump. But it did tease a war against Atlantis. So, despite the fact that T’Challa might be written out of the story, Black Panther 2 will surely build up upon the Atlantis tease from Endgame.
Now, Armor Wars will majorly connect with Iron Man 2. But this is a comic story about Tony’s suit getting stolen. So, in the absence of Tony Stark, Armor Wars is going to show us how his tech will end up in the wrong hands. Just imagine if someone gets hold of his Nano-tech suits. Rhodey will have a really tough time dealing with several Nano Particle armors at once!
Towards the end of Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark left a hologram recording of himself. Everyone thought that to be a tease for the A.I. Tony Stark that accompanied Riri Williams in the comics. Now it is unknown whether there will be a preestablished connection between Tony and Riri. But if there will be, then Riri Williams might actually be aided, and sort of mentored by an A.I. Tony. It’d be amazing to hear Robert Downey Jr.’s voice in the MCU once again.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
“You mess with time, it tends to mess back.” These are the words that Tony left us with. And, there’s no denying the fact that this is how the Russos placed a subtle tease for Kang the Conqueror. The Avengers used the Quantum Realm to navigate through time. So based on their Quantum travels, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will explore the Quantum Realm even further. And, it will bring Jonathan Majors’ Kang as the main villain of the film.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Gamora was nowhere to be found after the Endgame battle. Peter Quill seemed to be looking for her when Thor stepped on the Benatar. So, it seems that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 might continue that plot thread after their adventures in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Let’s wait and see which other MCU projects will draw surprising connections to Avengers: Endgame.
