6 Times Actors Didn’t Get The Role They Wanted
Life is not always fair and neither is Hollywood! Be it an A-lister or newcomer actors, literally, everyone has faced their fair share of rejections.
Some actors have tried really hard and done everything they could during these auditions, however, it was still not enough! Here are some instances when actors didn’t land up in their dream roles:
1. Tom Hiddleston Auditioned For Thor!
Tom Hiddleston was extremely desperate to play Thor and had even moved to LA. He worked with Kenneth Branagh in the theatre and was confident that this would convince them to give him the role.
In an interview, he said that “I thought, ‘At least there’s someone in this world of Hollywood who I don’t have to prove something to because he knows I can act.’ It was just a matter of trying to prove it to the studio, so I had to audition”. But despite trying so hard, Chris Hemsworth got the role of Thor. But on the brighter side, Tom ended up as Loki.
2. Millie Bobby Brown Auditioned For X23 (Logan)
Millie Bobby Brown who is well known for her role as Eleven in Stranger Things had once auditioned for the role of Laura Kinney aka X-23 in Logan.
She was deeply invested in the role and had prepared herself with hopes that she will get the part. She told in an interview that she thought it was going to be amazing and she was prepared and Starstruck to be with Hugh Jackman and James Mangold. But the role went to Dafne Keen and Millie was all praises for her saying she was incredible in her part!
3. Robin Williams Auditioned for The Joker (Batman)
Robin Williams was rejected for not one but three Batman movies. He first wanted to play The Joker in Tim Burton’s first movie and lost the role to Jack Nicholson. Then he tried for the part of Riddler in Batman Returns and lost the role as well.
When Christopher Nolan was taking auditions for his Joker, Williams tried again. He was so desperate to be in a Batman film that he was even ready to be some “weird little man” in the background in Arkham Asylum.
4. Bradley Cooper Auditioned For Green Lantern
Bradley Cooper really wanted to play Green Lantern that he went in “Christian Bale” mode. He recalled his audition saying that he actually put on a mask and the director said “be regular and talk” and he imitated a grave Batman voice instead.
Unfortunately (or rather, fortunately?) he didn’t get the role.
5. Eddie Redmayne Auditioned For Kylo Ren (Star Wars)
Eddie Redmayne was dying to play Kylo Ren aka the villain in the new Star Wars trilogy. In the auditions, he ended up doing the impressions of Darth Vader.
Remembering his audition, he shared that for such “top secret” films, they don’t give actual lines but a scene from Pride and Prejudice, and then they tell that you are auditioning for the villain. He tried with my different versions and even a Darth Vader voice, alas things didn’t go well for him.
6. Nicole Scherzinger Auditioned For Baywatch
Nicole Scherzinger from the fame of The Pussycat Dolls was really hoping to land a part in Dwayne Johnson’s Baywatch. She had also started working on her body before the movie even began casting.
In an interview, she expressed her disappointment saying, that she was working out every day and was motivated to get in shape because she was determined to be the new Baywatch girl and she was dogged mind that she will become an ocean angel. But when she heard she didn’t get the part, she was devastated!
We feel your pain, Nicole!
