Beef, a limited series featuring actor, Yeun (known for his roles in Nope and The Walking Dead) and Ali Wong (known for Always Be My Baby and Hard Knock Wife), follows the lives of two strangers whose encounter during a minor road rage incident leads to a significant change in their lives. The dark comedy series has earned immense praise from critics, reflected in its flawless Rotten Tomatoes score of 100%.

The showrunner, Lee Sung Jin, explains, “The idea was loosely based on a road rage incident that actually happened to me. Someone went off on me, and for some reason that day, I did not use sound judgment and impulsively decided to follow this person.” Jin continues,

“I didn’t really have a set plan, I just wanted him to feel fear and let him know that it’s not okay to do that to people. But things went awry — certainly not as they do in the show — and what happened that afternoon ended up inspiring Beef. I thought there was a show there about two people who are very much stuck in their own perspectives and have a lot going on in their individual lives that this incident unravels.”

The series Beef strikes a balance between its dark comedy and dramatic elements, with some critics noting that it also conveys a positive message that viewers will take away from it.

A24, the production company behind the upcoming series, is also responsible for the successful film Everything Everywhere All At Once, which received widespread acclaim.
