Brian Cox, 77, is every bit of a typical boomer – both on and off the screen.

The Scottish actor is famous, among the young generation, for playing the ruthless character of Logan Roy in Succession. Roy, a billionaire founder of media giant Waystar RoyCo, has seen poverty at an early age and as a result spent his life focusing on growing his business venture, forgetting to care about his four children in the process. Much like Roy, Cox has given a big part of his life to his work, playing iconic roles like Hannibal Lecktor in Manhunter and Agamemnon in Troy across several decades.

“You’re not serious figures. I love you. But you’re not serious people,” is one of Roy’s most famous and personality-defining lines from the show. Now, Cox’s recent comments suggest he’s equally brash with his words and has little affinity toward the new generation.

Brian Cox Bashes Woke Culture

As far as the straightforward meaning of the word ‘woke’ is concerned, it’s defined as being aware of important societal issues – political, economic, or cultural. But in recent times, the idea has taken a new identity, with many associating being woke as the synonym of the cancel culture.

And it appears, the boomer generation – who relatively gave little consideration to racial and social constraints during their youth days – while expressing their thoughts find it tough to speak their mind in today’s time where social media is quick to highlight, and at times cancel, them for the same. However, what one should say and what one should avoid remain up for debate, and it’s impossible to completely side with any one generation.

Brian Cox is not best pleased with this culture and especially millennials, airing out his feelings to British TV personality Piers Morgan on Piers Morgan Uncensored show.

“The whole woke culture is truly awful … and the shaming culture … and it turns out [that] it’s usually a bunch of millennials,” the 77-year-old Shakespearean actor said.

Brian Cox Creates Emmy History Alongside Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin

While Cox’s comments are bound to divide opinions, there’s little to disagree about his acting genius that reached new heights with his brilliant portrayal of Logan Roy in HBO’s flagship show that premiered in 2018.

The power struggle in Succession ended for good with a 90-minute finale of the 4th and final season. But The Roy family continues to earn big in the awards field.

The trio of Cox, Kieran Culkin (Roman Roy), and Jeremy Strong (Kendall Roy) created Emmys history by earning the most nominations for a lead actor in a drama for a single show.
