Jerry Springer, Host of Controversial Talk Show That Ran for Nearly 5000 Episodes, Passes Away at 79 After Cancer Battle
Sad news for Jerry Springer fans. The talk show host’s family declared he passed away at the age of 79 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. The long-time host left a legacy of controversies that spawned from his show that bore his name. The tabloid show was known for its nature of discussing controversial and provocative subject matters.
And even though it might have been dubbed as one of the worst talk shows once, it still ran for 26 years straight. Besides that, his legacy also includes his podcasts, and a career in politics.
Chat Show Host Jerry Springer Died at 79
On 27th April of this year, long-time talk show host Jerry Springer passed away after battling pancreatic cancer. He was diagnosed with the disease a few months ago but it reportedly worsened in the last week before his death. The family announced the news that he died peacefully at his Chicago home. And reportedly the arrangements for Springer’s funeral are in development.
His death has undoubtedly left a hole in the lives of his close family and friends. To express the sadness, the late host’s close friend Jene Galvin said,
“He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart, and humor will live on.”
Moreover, Galvin also mentioned Springer’s ability to connect with people which according to him, had helped with the talk-show host’s success. Springer’s last appearance on TV was in The Masked Singer.
He performed a Frank Sinatra song and was disguised as a beetle. As for the late chat show host’s family, his daughter is Katie Springer who is 47 years old at the moment.
Apart from her, the late host is also survived by his older sister named Evelyn. The news of his death left many shocked. But even though he is no more, Springer has left a legacy of being a chat show host that’s wonderful and commendable.
A Brief Look at Jerry Springer’s Career
Before Jerry Springer got on TV, he was in politics and even served one term as the mayor of Cincinnati in the late 70s. After that, he ventured into news reporting and anchoring career. He worked for WLWT’s new program as their main political reporter and commentator. And finally, in 1991, he launched his successful and highly controversial chat show, The Jerry Springer Show.
The show was infamous due to the provocative and controversial nature of topics discussed on the show usual with tabloid talk shows. And yet it was the same reason viewers were hooked on to it. The show went on for 26 years with its final run in 2018.
Following that he launched another TV show titled Judge Jerry. It was a courtroom show in which he was able to use his law background. However, it was canceled after just three seasons. Apart from his TV shows, Springer has had a huge list of hosting various events and programs.
